Rainn Wilson is calling out Fox News for what he says is a blatant misuse of his words — and he’s not holding back.
The Office alum lit up social media Friday, blasting right-wing outlets for framing him as a new “MAGA hero” after a heavily edited clip of his podcast conversation with MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle went viral.
“Recently I was LAUDED by the right-wing Pravda Billionaire-funded news-o-sphere,” Wilson posted on X, referring to outlets like Fox News, Breitbart, and others who praised him for allegedly calling out the “left-leaning media.”
“But of course, the truth is more complicated,” he added.
The controversy started after a snippet from Wilson’s “Soul Boom” podcast aired, where he questioned why media outlets weren’t tougher on Democratic leadership. In the clip, Wilson pointed out, “I’m talking about left-leaning news media organizations… were kind of like, ‘La la la la, everything’s fine. Look, the economy is great, la la la, immigration’s not that much of a problem,’ and really being Cleopatra, queen of denial.”
Fox News ran with it — hard.
In a segment this week, Fox host Raymond Arroyo praised Wilson for supposedly “waking up” to the “lies of the left.” Over on The Five, Greg Gutfeld took it even further, suggesting Wilson had finally evolved “from an actor to a fully realized human being,” mocking Hollywood’s progressive values along the way.
Wilson, however, made it clear: that’s not what happened.
“I guarantee this post won’t make it to @FoxNews,” he wrote, accusing right-wing media of cherry-picking his comments while ignoring the bigger picture — namely, that he remains a fierce advocate for progressive causes.
On the very same day Fox and its pundits celebrated him, Wilson was honored with Time’s “Earth Award” for his climate activism — an achievement rooted in science many MAGA supporters routinely deny or attack.
Wilson didn’t mince words about the broader problem either.
“The bigger question should be why are we all such brain-dead suckers to a toxic two-party system,” he said. He urged Americans to “stop slobbering over Red and Blue labels” and start “researching issues instead of being spoon-fed a convenient, division-inducing political narrative.”
His message was blunt: don’t believe the hype. And certainly don’t let the MAGA machine co-opt a conversation meant to challenge all media, not reinforce the very biases it claims to despise.
As Wilson put it himself: “It’s simply not that deep.”
