Christina Applegate’s heartbreaking health battle has taken another troubling turn, with the beloved actress revealing that her physical struggles have become so severe that simply getting out of bed can now take 10 minutes.
The 54-year-old “Married… with Children” and “Dead to Me” star shared the alarming update during the October 27 episode of her “MeSsy” podcast, just one week after revealing that doctors had apparently been treating her for a condition she never had.
Applegate, who publicly announced a multiple sclerosis (MS) diagnosis in 2021, recently learned from her doctor that the diagnosis was incorrect. But instead of celebrating, the Emmy-winning actress has been left facing an unsettling reality: Her symptoms haven’t disappeared, and she still doesn’t know what’s causing them.
During her latest podcast appearance alongside co-host Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Applegate described a frightening change in her ability to perform everyday activities.
She revealed that she recently timed herself getting out of bed and discovered it took an astonishing 10 minutes just to sit up, move off her pillow and stand. Even then, she nearly couldn’t make it to the bathroom.
The actress now keeps a walker beside her bed because of her worsening mobility problems, explaining that these particular difficulties are new.
“I don’t know what’s going on,” Applegate admitted, acknowledging that her condition appears to be changing in ways she has never experienced before.
The latest revelation comes after an emotional October 20 podcast episode in which Applegate disclosed that her doctor had told her she did not have MS, overturning the diagnosis she had lived with for approximately five years.
Although those around her initially welcomed the news, Applegate said she felt anger and confusion rather than relief.
“I haven’t gotten better. If anything, I’ve gotten worse in some ways,” she explained.
For years, the actress had openly discussed her debilitating symptoms, including severe fatigue, chronic pain and difficulty walking. Her struggles dramatically changed her personal life and career, forcing her to rely on mobility aids and significantly limiting her public appearances.
Now, after years of believing she understood the cause of her suffering, Applegate finds herself searching for answers all over again.
The medical uncertainty has added another difficult chapter to an already exhausting ordeal. Multiple sclerosis can be challenging to diagnose because there is no single definitive test, and several other neurological or autoimmune conditions can produce similar symptoms.
Applegate has said she is undergoing physical therapy three times a week and working toward additional medical evaluations to determine what is happening to her body.
Despite the devastating uncertainty, the actress is determined not to abandon the community that has supported her throughout her health struggles.
“I’m still your warrior,” she told listeners, promising to continue advocating for people living with MS even though her own diagnosis has changed.
Applegate and Sigler also confirmed that their “MeSsy” podcast will continue, giving the actress a platform to share her experiences while doctors investigate the cause of her symptoms.
For now, the Hollywood star faces an agonizing unanswered question: After five years of treatment and increasingly difficult physical challenges, what is really happening to her health?
