After weeks of speculation, the White House has finally admitted that President Donald Trump underwent a precautionary MRI last month due to what aides described as his “advanced age.”
Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed Monday that the 79-year-old president had the scan at Walter Reed Military Medical Center in mid-October, describing it as part of a “comprehensive executive physical.”
“The purpose of this imaging is preventive — to identify issues early, confirm overall health, and ensure he maintains long-term function,” wrote Dr. Sean Barbabella, the physician to the president, in a memo released by the White House.
According to the report, Trump’s cardiovascular imaging was “perfectly normal.” The memo said there was “no evidence of arterial narrowing impairing blood flow or abnormalities in the heart or major vessels,” adding that the president’s cardiovascular system “shows excellent health.”
Leavitt read the memo aloud during Monday’s briefing, saying it was released “in the effort of transparency” after repeated media questions.
The president himself addressed the issue aboard Air Force One on Sunday night, returning from Florida to Washington.
“I’m totally fine — they said my scan was perfect, maybe the best MRI ever done,” Trump told reporters before launching into a familiar tirade against the media. “They should be thanking me for being so healthy at my age. Nobody else could do what I do.”
Trump reportedly joked that he “aced” his cognitive test again, adding, “They keep testing me, and I keep passing with flying colors.”
The disclosure comes after weeks of stonewalling. Earlier this month, Leavitt had told reporters she would “check on” why the MRI was ordered, while Trump himself told the press he “didn’t really know” what prompted the test.
That uncertainty fueled speculation, particularly given the president’s visible health issues in recent months.
In July, the White House acknowledged that Trump had been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) — a condition common among older adults that causes leg veins to struggle pushing blood back to the heart. The diagnosis came after photos showed the president with noticeably swollen ankles.
At the time, aides said there were “no changes to his routine” and “no new medications prescribed.”
Adding to the chatter, photographers have repeatedly captured Trump with a large bruise on the top of his right hand. Sometimes, it appears covered with makeup. Other times, the deep purple mark is clearly visible.
The White House has attributed it to “constant handshaking while taking daily aspirin.”
Trump’s age has become an unavoidable fact of his second presidency. At 79, he’s the oldest person ever to hold the office — older than Joe Biden was when he left in 2025.
Medical experts note that MRIs are not typically part of a routine physical unless there’s a specific concern.
“Advanced imaging like this usually follows a complaint or a potential risk factor,” said Dr. Laura Chen, a cardiologist at Georgetown University who has not treated the president. “That said, preventive MRIs are becoming more common in high-profile or high-stress individuals — particularly men over 75.”
Despite the scrutiny, Leavitt emphasized that the MRI confirmed Trump’s “excellent overall health” and that there are “no acute or chronic concerns.”
Dr. Barbabella’s report concluded, “This level of detailed assessment is standard for an executive physical at President Trump’s age and confirms he remains in excellent health.”
As the president himself summed it up on the tarmac: “They can scan me all they want — they’ll only find a perfect brain and a perfect heart.”

I’m 87 years old. Still very healthy and functional and active. So Our President, not yet 80, is still young enough to lead our most powerful, prosperous, ever active and young country in the whole universe. David.

Same old nextgen clap trap laced with inaccuracies! Much as you hate Trump he is in fact 79 and Biden was 82 when he left office! So no Trump in not the oldest individual to ever hold the office of President! Had Biden been re-elected he would have been 86 at the end of his term and Trump will be 83! Barely a year older than Biden was when he left office! And Trump is healthier that Nixon or FDR or Biden was in office AND AT LEAST TRUMP DOESNT GET LOST IN HIS OWN. LOSET LIKE BIDEN DID! Or try to board a plane to Russia instead of air force one!!!
