President Donald Trump is facing a wave of backlash after unveiling a controversial new feature on the White House website — a “Media Offender of the Week” page that names and shames journalists and news outlets his administration accuses of spreading “fake news.”
The move, which went live in late October, has triggered fury among Democrats, independents, and even some moderate Republicans who say Trump appears more focused on punishing the press than solving the nation’s problems.
The page lists mainstream outlets like CBS News, The Boston Globe, and The Independent under bold red banners reading “Misleading. Biased. Exposed.” It claims these organizations distorted Trump’s comments about Democratic lawmakers who had urged military personnel to refuse unlawful orders.
The president had posted on Truth Social that the comments were “punishable by DEATH!” — adding, “HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD!!” — before accusing the media of falsely reporting that he was calling for executions.
According to the site, Trump “has never issued an illegal order,” and it insists Democrats “subversively implied” that he had. A secondary page called the “Hall of Shame” includes The Washington Post, CNN, MSNBC, and other newsrooms that Trump has attacked for years.
A White House spokesperson defended the initiative in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, saying it was “a necessary effort to hold dishonest media accountable and restore public trust.”
But many Americans — including some of Trump’s own allies — are not buying it.
“It’s tone-deaf and self-obsessed,” said Republican strategist Michael Alvarez, who has worked on several national campaigns. “People are struggling with inflation, housing, and healthcare — and he’s spending taxpayer dollars building a digital enemies list.”
A former senior Trump adviser, speaking anonymously, admitted the rollout has caused internal concern: “There’s a sense in the West Wing that this is distracting from everything else. Voters want jobs and stability, not another feud with CNN.”
Even Trump’s supporters seem weary. “He thinks this helps him, but we’re tired of the drama,” one longtime campaign donor told Politico. “Every week, it’s another fight. Meanwhile, nothing changes.”
Trump has long labeled journalists as “the enemy of the people,” but this new tactic feels to critics like an escalation — a formalization of personal grudges into government policy.
“Creating a government-run blacklist of reporters is straight out of an authoritarian playbook,” said Dr. Erin Massey, a professor of media ethics at Columbia University. “It’s not transparency — it’s intimidation.”
Ironically, the controversy comes just weeks after Trump praised CBS News for what he called “positive changes” under new leadership by Bari Weiss and Paramount CEO David Ellison.
In a 60 Minutes interview, Trump boasted about winning a $16 million settlement from CBS over a previous dispute and told interviewer Norah O’Donnell, “You can’t have fake news. You’ve gotta have legit news… I see good things happening in the media.”
That contradiction has not gone unnoticed. “He’s attacking CBS one week and praising them the next,” said Democratic strategist Angela Ruiz. “It’s chaos politics — all distraction, no direction.”
While the administration insists the “Media Offender” project will continue, insiders say the backlash has been louder than expected.
“There’s real frustration in the communications team,” said one White House official. “They wanted to focus on economic wins and foreign policy, but this story has swallowed the news cycle.”
On social media, thousands of users echoed the same sentiment: “Does he really have nothing better to do?”
For many Americans, it’s not about partisan loyalty anymore — it’s about leadership. And in a year when global crises, rising costs, and deep divisions already dominate the headlines, Trump’s latest move seems to confirm his critics’ biggest complaint: he’s still fighting old battles instead of leading the nation forward.

First time I’ve heard of any “Outrage” by Pres.Trump! The real “OUTRAGE” comes from millions of illegal immigration to enter our states unvetted, not scanned, no issues concerning Americans, using resources like Social Security, Medi-care, Medi-caid at the added expense to Americans, not to mention non of these individuals have ever put one dime into any of these organizations, yet Americans, in order to qualify must atleast participate 10 years or Forty Quarters of taxable income to simply qualify for. Yet illegals have been able to obtain some of these resources. HOW? I have an idea? Let The Legislative branch pay for this crap, because AMERICANS HAVE HAD ENOUGH!!!!!!!!

I love the idea. For years I have only watched Newsmax because of their lies. If some people only understood what is really the truth then no one would be watching these fake news outlets. About time someone holds them accountable for their false reporting and lies. This should have been done years ago. These same reporters lied out their teeth for democrats and yet lie about President Trump and anyone who associates with him or is a supporter of his. These same reports know what they are doing is wrong yet they do it anyway. Need more websites like this for a lot of things like fraud, waste and abuse of our government money.
