Rock legend David Coverdale is officially stepping off the stage for good. The 74-year-old Whitesnake frontman took to YouTube on Thursday to tell fans it’s time to “hang up [his] rock and roll platform shoes and skin-tight jeans” after more than five decades in music.
“Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, brothers and sisters of the Snake, a special announcement for you,” Coverdale began. “After 50-plus years of an incredible journey with you—with Deep Purple, with Whitesnake, with Jimmy Page—it’s time for me to call it a day.”
With a raised glass and his signature charm, the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer thanked everyone who’s been part of his ride. “I love you dearly. I thank everyone who’s assisted and supported me on this incredible journey—the musicians, the crew, the fans, the family. It’s amazing.”
The announcement wrapped with a heartfelt montage of his storied career, set to Whitesnake’s 2011 track “Fare Thee Well”—a fitting farewell for one of hard rock’s most iconic voices.
After decades of roaring anthems, big hair, and arena-shaking choruses, Coverdale’s final bow feels like the end of a rock era.
