A bizarre batch of pills shaped like President Donald Trump’s head has triggered an urgent drug warning in the Netherlands after testing revealed they contain a potentially deadly chemical.
The Trimbos Institute, a Dutch addiction and mental health organization that tests recreational drugs in an effort to reduce overdoses, issued a “Red Alert” over the unusual tablets.
Despite reportedly being sold as ecstasy, the Trump-shaped pills do not contain MDMA, the drug normally associated with ecstasy.
Instead, testing found para-methoxymethamphetamine, better known as PMMA.
Health officials are especially concerned because PMMA can take longer to produce noticeable effects than MDMA. That delay could convince users the pill is not working, leading them to take another dose.
That is where things can become extremely dangerous.
The Trimbos Institute warned that taking additional pills could cause severe overheating and potentially fatal complications.
Photos of the tablets show pills molded into the unmistakable shape of Trump’s head and hairstyle, making the dangerous batch particularly distinctive.
Ecstasy remains illegal in the Netherlands, but the drug continues to be widely used at clubs, parties and major music festivals.
A Dutch government report released in 2024 estimated that roughly 550,000 people had used ecstasy during the previous year.
Despite the alarming discovery, officials said there have not been any reported PMMA-related deaths connected to the latest warning.
The Trimbos Institute is urging anyone who encounters the Trump-shaped pills not to take them and to have recreational drugs professionally tested whenever possible.
