Hollywood legend Morgan Freeman just revealed the surprisingly simple secret to his long, thriving life — and it came straight from his longtime friend, Clint Eastwood.
At 88, the Oscar-winning actor told AARP’s Movies for Grownups that Eastwood, now 95, once gave him a piece of wisdom that stuck: “Don’t let the old man in.”
“That’s the secret to it all,” Freeman said. “Keep moving.”
And he’s definitely living by it. Freeman isn’t slowing down — he’s back on the big screen this fall, reprising his role as former magician Thaddeus Bradley in Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, which hits theaters November 14.
When he’s not acting, the Million Dollar Baby star spends his days golfing and binging The Righteous Gemstones. “Will I still be playing golf at 90?” he joked. “That’s the real question.”
Recently, Freeman and Eastwood reunited at California’s Monterey Jazz Festival, where Freeman presented his old friend with the inaugural Clint Eastwood Award for Cultural Leadership. Sharing a photo from the event, Freeman wrote on Instagram: “It was a great pleasure presenting my friend, Clint Eastwood, with the inaugural award… We had a wonderful time listening to Kyle Eastwood and Mavis Staples!”
After more than six decades in Hollywood, Freeman says fame hasn’t changed him “one whit.” The biggest difference since his Oscar win? “Maybe your price goes up a tiny bit,” he laughed.
Still, the smooth-voiced star has fresh dreams ahead — including one famous name he’d love to work with. “Top of that list is Meryl Streep. She’s the best,” he said.
Freeman’s advice to the next generation of performers? “Stay in your lane. Learn what that is. Make the best of it.”
And if you ask Clint Eastwood, maybe — just maybe — never let the old man in.
