President Donald Trump, now 79, says he’s thinking about eternity — and his place in it. In a wide-ranging radio interview Thursday, Trump revealed that part of his motivation to end the bloody war between Russia and Ukraine comes from an unexpected source: the afterlife.
“I just want to end it,” Trump told Fox News earlier this week. “If I can save 7,000 people a week from getting killed, that’s pretty good. I want to get to heaven if possible. I’m hearing I’m not doing well. I hear I’m at the bottom of the totem pole. If I can get to heaven, this will be one of the reasons.”
Pressed about those remarks on conservative radio Thursday, Trump doubled down. “There has to be some kind of report card up there someplace,” he mused. “Let’s get into heaven — it’s sort of a beautiful thing.”
Trump, who previously identified as Presbyterian but now calls himself a “non-denominational Christian,” has leaned heavily on religion as part of his political brand in his second term.
“Look, religion was the backbone of our country. It’s much less so now, but it’s getting much stronger under me,” Trump said, while promoting his controversial $59.99 “God Bless the USA” Bibles — a product Democrats have blasted as “profiting off faith.”
Critics argue that Trump’s renewed push to tie policy goals to religious themes is less about saving souls and more about energizing his evangelical base ahead of the 2026 midterms.
“Trump has always been transactional,” said Dr. Meredith Collins, a political analyst at Georgetown. “Now, it’s faith that’s the currency. He’s framing his agenda not just as political, but eternal.”
The president also reignited old grievances about pandemic-era restrictions on indoor worship services, despite his own administration enforcing many of those rules during the early months of COVID-19 in 2020.
“They were closing churches, even when people were outside and ten feet apart,” Trump complained. “They treated these folks like prisoners, like horrible people. And they’re great people.”
Under Trump’s leadership, the administration has also taken a controversial step: issuing a memo last month allowing federal employees to debate which religions are “correct” in government offices. Civil rights groups immediately called the move “a direct attack on religious neutrality.”
Trump ended Thursday’s interview by praising the role of faith in uniting Americans but added a cryptic warning. “Religion brings our country together. All religions. A lot of religions,” he said before pausing. “Some of them, though, have a little rough philosophy there.”
He didn’t elaborate, but critics quickly accused him of stoking division under the guise of unity.
“It’s classic Trump,” said Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD). “He claims to be promoting religious freedom while pushing policies that divide Americans along faith lines.”
As the 79-year-old president positions himself as both a peacemaker abroad and a moral crusader at home, his talk of “heavenly report cards” has sparked debate about how faith should influence policy in a polarized America.
Trump insists he’s motivated by something bigger than politics. “If I can save lives, that’s a good thing,” he said. “That’s a heavenly thing.”
But opponents see it differently. “This isn’t about heaven,” said Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA). “It’s about power.”

Religion is the founding blocks of this country! The belief in God gave us the inalienable rights! That religion was Christianity that preaches peace and always has! But our founding fathers gave all religions freedom! Thats America!
BTW if you were nicked in the ear by an assassin’s bullet who wasn’t yet captured would you stand up with your fist in the air?? No and I wouldn’t either! Only a Man believing in God and doing God’s work would!! And Trump did exactly that!!
NO LASTING PEACE without getting rid of all religions. Religions fuel all the unneeded wars including Roman Catholic Europe/Ukraine vs Eastern Orthodox Catholic Russia/Serbia/etc. which has been going on for 975 years and includes 30 Years War, 100 Years War, WWI, WWII, etc…
Brilliant Founders Jefferson/Madison banned religions from our Govt.! Creating an internally peaceful country.
Trump stood back up after the attempted assassin was killed. And he kept on going… wasn’t intimidated…
I think President Trump is looking towards religion because of everything negative he’s done and short time he has left on earth. Having swollen legs and feet is no joke. Hope he fixes all that he’s broken before he goes and stop trying to be a dictator. Leave America alone.
How can the devil get into heaven! He has put people in cages that have done nothing wrong but trying to keep their families safe .Plus Americans are not the only people in the world .I am sure everything is not made of gold .He is the worse president in my lifetime. At least he can be known in history as the worst and tacky president there is.
fuck trump. may he burn in hell. his actions, in ALL things shows the devil has had his claws in trump for decades, if not his entire life.

It’s too bad that POTUS has a work-based salvation. Ephesians 2:8-9 states: For by grace are you saved through FAITH, not of works should any man/woman boast, it is the gift of God that gives it liberally to all who may ask.
