In a bizarre twist on presidential health, Republican Senator Tommy Tuberville is pointing fingers not at genetics, diet, or age—but at the “radical left”—for President Donald Trump’s reported leg swelling and overall physical decline.

Speaking on New York’s conservative talk station WABC 7770 AM Sunday, the Alabama senator claimed that “fighting the radicals in this country” is what’s really dragging Trump down.

“Every day, it’s almost like a fistfight,” Tuberville said, framing the 79-year-old president as a political prizefighter under siege, rather than a man nearing 80 with documented health problems.

The comments come just days after a White House physician confirmed that Trump was recently diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, a circulatory disorder that impairs blood flow in the legs—frequently leading to swelling, fatigue, and, in severe cases, skin ulcers.

Photos of Trump’s puffy ankles, bulging over his socks during a recent golf outing at Bedminster, went viral online and triggered renewed questions about his health and fitness for office. Instead of addressing those concerns, Tuberville suggested the real problem was “the relentless pressure from the radical Democrats and global forces.”

But critics say the senator’s remarks are yet another example of MAGA deflection—turning a legitimate health issue into a partisan blame game.

“Trump eats like a teenager and treats medical advice like fake news,” said Dr. Helen Rourke, a cardiologist and professor at Emory University. “Chronic venous insufficiency doesn’t come from political pressure—it comes from age, weight, and poor circulation.”

Trump’s long-documented disdain for physical exercise hasn’t helped. He famously compared the human body to a battery, claiming that workouts only “drain your energy.” As early as 2016, he refused to release meaningful medical records, offering only brief and highly questionable notes from personal physicians.

Despite labeling himself a “very stable genius,” Trump has shown visible signs of aging since retaking the White House in 2025. Now the second-oldest person ever elected president—after Joe Biden—Trump is set to become the oldest sitting president in U.S. history by the end of his second term in 2029.

White House officials are downplaying the diagnosis, insisting the president remains “fit and energetic.” But privately, sources close to the administration acknowledge growing unease. One senior aide, speaking on condition of anonymity, put Trump’s odds of finishing a full second term at “less than 75 percent.”

Progressive groups say the real issue is transparency. “Whether it’s his tax returns or his health records, Trump has always treated basic accountability as optional,” said Natalia Gomez, a spokesperson for the Democratic Coalition. “The American people deserve a commander-in-chief who levels with them—not one whose allies invent conspiracies to explain away poor circulation.”

Still, the MAGA machine marches on.

“President Trump is a warrior,” Tuberville insisted. “He’s just taking hits every day from the woke mob.”

But critics aren’t buying it. As one user on X (formerly Twitter) quipped: “Apparently the left made him eat McDonald’s every day too?”

With Trump’s physical condition now plainly visible and his allies spinning ever more outlandish excuses, one question looms large: is this really the man Republicans believe will carry them through 2029?

Or is the real condition here denial?

  1. Sitting at a desk for hours doesn’t help circulation and most know that Trump puts in a longer day than most in his efforts to do as much as possible with the time he has available in this 2nd term in office.

  2. Obviously needs to take better care of himself. Bit of exercise and proper nutrition
He’s looking older, as the case with most presidents.
At this pace I wouldn’t be surprised if he died in office. Which would be a shame

  3. Who reads this and thinks the Senator is on to something.
Trump called Republicans stupid and ridiculous. In this he is correct.
Blaming Democrats for Trump’s age specific health issues is stupid and as ridiculous a conspiracy theory as Republicans have invented yet.
lies beget conspiracy theories which beget diversions and rabbit holes for stupid people to get lost in.
Tupperville will not win any prizes for astute commentary, but possibly he will earn loyalty points with HM Trump.

    1. I guess maybe some people just want to pay back the Dems with all the lies they have spewed the last 4 years,

  4. Natalia Gomez is the prime example of the pot calling the kettle black. She has a lot of nerve, and is very disgusting by saying Americans deserve a commander in Chief that is on the level with them. And that Trump isn’t transparent, and he won’t disclose his medical records, and he’s not fit to run the country. That is EXACTLY what the cheating lying left is all about. Turning around and wrongly accusing of the Trump administration of doing EXACTLY, what they have ALREADY done, in the past 4 Years. It makes the good people of America SICK to listen to the liberals lie.
We didn’t have a level president from 2020-2024. A Democrat who couldn’t be on the level. Wouldn’t disclose his medical records, and did nothing but lie and cheat and criminalize everything he did.
Please just quit lying about the administration now. As the everyday American people don’t believe you or trust you, or any of the crooked party. Again just stop the spewing of lies coming out of your mouths.
