A nuanced attempt by Sen. Linsey Graham (R-SC) to assert that the U.S. should never have been in the position to have to launch the Normandy invasion 80 years ago fell with a thud on Sunday morning after he told a CBS host that D-Day was a “failure.”
Discussing battling Russian President Vladimir Putin for invading Ukraine, Graham tried to compare that war with fighting Nazi Germany.
Referencing the massive invasion that was a pivotal battle that helped lead to the end of the war with Nazi Germany, Graham stated, “We celebrated the 80th anniversary of D-Day. It was a failure. It was the ‘unnecessary war, ‘ described by Winston Churchill. We had a dozen chances to stop Hitler. It’s not about NATO. It’s not about American weapons in Ukraine. It’s about a megalomaniac wanting to create the Russian Empire by force of arms.”
With members of the Allies having spent the past few days honoring the D-Day fallen, Graham’s inartful comments with Margaret Brennan of CBS set off a wave of condemnation on social media, with attorney Bradley Moss writing about the posted clip, “Tell me that’s fake. Please tell me that’s fake.”
Stewcat2006 wrote, “Man, Graham is soooooo close to catching on how important it is to stop a facist wannabe dictator before he gains too much power…”
With another commenter suggesting, “He’s truly lost his mind,” SnarkyPanda added, “He’s backing Hitler Jr while saying people should have stopped Hitler earlier.”
“Politicians who make statements like this are beneath the dignity of this country. We will never be whole as long as traitors serve in the highest positions in government. Graham is disgraceful,” Just A Guy accused.
Marc Goldstein contributed, “Because Fascists are running rampant again 80 years later? Don’t blame the heroes of D-Day for that, Lindsey. Look for the reason in a mirror.”
“What a vile little man,” Covfefe added with Colette Flanigan writing, “You know what WAS a failure? You and Trump trying a coup against America on 1/6. You failed.”
Joey Bonanno summed it up with a direct link to Graham, writing, “Your abhorrent statement about D -Day should get you removed from office, unfortunately the stupid voters in S Carolina clutch bibles and parks and guns on voting day, they don’t give a dam about Democracy, you sir, you’re a disgrace to the flag.”

In a sense He’s right,the” allies” should have stopped both Hitler and Tojo before things got out of hand. There was a lot of economic and diplomatic problems leading up to WW2 that might have been solved without war.
It would have been too difficult for the USA to act over in Europe during Hitler’s rise… The Brits and French dropped that ball… because they had too many Catholics who liked the evil that Catholic Religious Terrorist Hitler was doing… even USA had Catholics (Ford, Edison, Lindbergh, Kennedy, etc…) who liked what Hitler was doing…

How could it be a “failure” since it opened up the western front that
Russia had been begging us to do. We established our forces on the
western European front which put Hitler in a position of fighting a
two-front ground war which lead to the liberation of France, Belgium,
the Netherlands and other countries. I had two uncles who were with George Patton in France and Belgium during the Battle of the Bulge. Subsequently, allied forces closed in on Germany from two fronts ending the war. It was actually the third front since we had taken Sicily and Italy in 1943-1944.
The roots of WWII came all the way back from the retribution and reparations demanded by the Brits and French from Germany after winning WWI. Also the greed and lapse banking regulations that caused the Great Depression blamed on Jewish Bankers (and one of the primary reasons why the NAZI hated the Jews)
Also Wilson should have demanded a stronger League of Nations (precursor of our United Nations) that should have penalized and punished Germany after they invaded Czechoslovakia.
There was (and still exist) a very strong NAZI and Fascist sympathy in the USA, the only reason we got militarily involved in WWII was because of Pearl Harbor and the Tripartite Treaty forced Hitler to declare war on the USA and that worked swimmingly for FDR.
Maybe Graham should either study more history OR stop lying to satisfy the MAGA base. Fascists and NAZI are still here in the USA looking to make Trump a new Hitler…Sadly do as Hitler had a an IQ of 153, Trump is a senile, psychopath and a moron
