Prince Harry could be returning to his royal role, according to a new report.

The Duke of Sussex, 39, is reportedly willing to support his father King Charles amid his cancer diagnosis by returning to a temporary royal role, sources told The Times.

Per the publication, Harry and Charles, 75, are said to have shared “warm exchanges” after the King revealed his health news earlier this month.

Harry, who is the fifth in line to the throne after brother Prince William and his three children — Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis — is also said to have told friends that he would be willing to resume a royal role despite stepping down from his position four years ago, The Times reported.

Harry’s reported decision also comes about as William’s wife, Kate Middleton, recovers from abdominal surgery.

According to The Times, which cited a royal source, it is believed that Charles also wants Harry to step back into royal duties, given that it would “benefit the institution.”

“On all practical levels, it makes perfect sense for the family to come together to support the King while he’s sick,” the insider said.

“Much has been said on both sides in recent years, but that has never diminished the fundamental bond of blood, and there are now pragmatic aspects to consider, with the King and Kate’s wellbeing paramount in this,” continued the source.

They added: “The details of the Clarence House meeting and subsequent conversations are private, but the feeling is that this arrangement could work.” Prince Harry.

Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, relocated to California after they stepped back as working members of the royal family in 2020. Although Harry has returned to the U.K. on several occasions, he rarely reunites with his father or other family members.

King Charles’ cancer diagnosis was revealed earlier this month after the royal underwent a procedure to treat an enlarged prostate in January. He has since postponed all “public-facing duties” and “will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork,” Buckingham Palace said.

Prince Harry spent about a day in the U.K. earlier this month to see King Charles after his cancer diagnosis. The father and son are believed to have had a brief private meeting at Clarence House before the King and Queen Camilla left London for Sandringham. (The reunion marked Prince Harry and King Charles’ first meeting since the coronation ceremony in May 2023, for which the Duke of Sussex also made a similarly quick solo trip to the U.K.)

Harry, who is in Canada for the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025’s One Year to Go celebrations alongside his wife, spoke out about his father’s health for the first time this week in a conversation with Good Morning America‘s Will Reeve.

When asked how he first learned about his father’s cancer diagnosis, Harry replied, “I spoke to him. I jumped on a plane and went to go see him as soon as I could. Look, I love my family. The fact that I was able to get on a plane and go and see him and spend any time with him, I’m grateful for that.”
