Authorities continue their desperate search for a Michigan-based traveling nurse who vanished on Wednesday while hiking out in California, and the family is warning that her ability to survive in the wilderness is limited.
The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office first learned Ann Herford was missing on Nov. 15.
Deputies search the Arnold Rim Trail in Arnold, California, but found no sign of the 66-year-old hiker.
Aerial search efforts on Sunday were hampered by inclement weather.
More than 120 people were involved in Sunday’s search for Herford. Five canine teams are also on the ground, trying to track the missing woman.
The traveling nurse practitioner was reported missing after failing to show up for work at Adventist Health in Sonora, California.
She had been staying alone at the Best Western in Sonora and had expressed interest in hiking during a breakfast with a friend on Nov. 11.
Family members told investigators that, while enjoyed hiking, Herford “lacked wilderness survival skills,” as she never hiked more than a couple of miles at a time.
Someone reported seeing Ann near a trailhead where her car was found on Nov. 15.
