Plane Passengers Wake Up to Horrifying Smell After Woman Poops in Seat Mid-Flight

An AirAsia flight from Malaysia to China turned into a nightmare for passengers after a woman allegedly defecated in her seat shortly before landing, forcing the plane to undergo a deep cleaning.

Flight AK1516 left Kota Kinabalu at about 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 18 and was scheduled to arrive in Shanghai around 3 a.m. the following morning.

But about 40 minutes before landing, passengers began noticing a powerful odor spreading through the cabin.

According to reports, the smell was so strong that it woke some passengers from their sleep.

One passenger, identified only by the surname Zhao, said the woman involved appeared to be in her 40s and was seated between two boys.

“It was just before 2 a.m. and we were all asleep,” Zhao recalled. “She hurried toward the toilet carrying a bag.”

At first, passengers reportedly thought she was going to vomit.

Then they noticed feces on the aisle carpet and on the woman’s seat.

When other passengers confronted her, she reportedly said she was feeling sick.

That explanation did not satisfy some travelers, who pointed out that the restroom was less than 15 feet away and was still available at the time.

A flight attendant attempted to clean the area with tissues and sprayed air freshener, but passengers said the smell remained overwhelming.

To make matters worse, the cabin air conditioning had reportedly been turned off as the plane prepared to land.

That left passengers sitting in the smell for the final 40 minutes of the flight.

After the aircraft landed, AirAsia said the incident was reported to the captain and ground crews.

Cleaning teams then boarded the plane and disinfected the affected area after passengers got off.

The crew scheduled to operate the return flight was also informed about what had happened inside the cabin.

AirAsia China general manager Frank Tang Ting praised the flight crew for remaining professional and calm during the bizarre situation.

He said employees stayed focused on passenger safety despite the unpleasant conditions.

“Passenger safety and well-being are our top priority,” Tang said. “We appreciate the passengers’ understanding in the face of this unexpected situation.”

The unusual incident quickly spread across Chinese social media, where travelers shared their disbelief over what happened on board.
