Passengers Scream In Terror As Jet Skids Off Runway During Takeoff (Video)

Passengers aboard a Croatia Airlines flight were left screaming in terror after their jet suddenly veered off the runway during an aborted takeoff in a frightening airport scare caught on video.

The chilling moment unfolded Saturday at Split Airport in Croatia as an Airbus A220-300 was preparing to depart for Frankfurt, Germany, with 130 passengers, two pilots, and three cabin crew members on board.

Footage filmed from inside the aircraft shows heavy rain pouring outside as the jet accelerated down the runway. Within seconds, the routine takeoff turned into a nightmare.

The plane began rattling violently as passengers realized something had gone wrong. Screams erupted throughout the cabin as the aircraft suddenly swerved off the tarmac and onto the grass beside the runway.

Mud and dirt were seen splattering across the white body of the plane as it cut through the soggy ground, leaving terrified travelers bracing for the worst.

Video taken from outside the aircraft showed the jet unexpectedly veering to the side just as it appeared to be gaining speed for takeoff. The pilot seemed to decelerate quickly, bringing the plane under control before the situation turned catastrophic.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

All passengers and crew members were able to safely disembark after the frightening incident. Travelers were then taken back to the terminal, where officials provided assistance and worked to help them continue on to their destinations.

Croatian authorities have now launched an investigation into what caused the aircraft to suddenly drift off course during takeoff.

Danko Petrin, chief investigator of aircraft accidents at Croatia’s Air, Maritime and Railway Accident Investigation Agency, told local media that the probe is still in its early stages.

“The investigation has only just started and extensive technical analyses are being carried out to determine the cause of the deviation during take-off,” Petrin said.

“At this stage we do not know why the aircraft veered to the left. That will be established through the investigation.”

Investigators have already retrieved the cockpit voice recorder and are expected to analyze data from the plane’s black box as they work to piece together the terrifying runway scare.

“These analyses and procedures require time,” Petrin added.

For passengers, however, the technical answers may come later. In the moment, what should have been a normal flight out of Croatia became a rain-soaked ordeal filled with screams, panic, and the terrifying sight of a jet sliding off the runway before it could ever leave the ground.
