Conservative firebrand Tucker Carlson is taking heat from Trump supporters after making a blunt prediction about President Donald Trump’s future just weeks before the commander in chief turns 80.
During an appearance on Megyn Kelly’s SiriusXM show, Carlson shocked listeners when he suggested Republicans are heading toward disaster in the midterms — and hinted the MAGA movement may soon have to face life without Trump at the center of it all.
“Just remember that Trump turns 80 next month,” Carlson said during the conversation. “I don’t wish Trump ill… I’ll always have a gut-level affection for Trump. However, he will be gone relatively soon, and we’ll still have this country.”
The former Fox News star questioned whether conservatives are truly prepared for what comes after Trump, saying the political world has spent nearly a decade obsessing over the president “all day every day.”
The comments immediately sparked backlash online, especially from hardcore MAGA loyalists who accused Carlson and Kelly of turning on the very movement that helped make them media powerhouses.
“Tucker spent years defending Trump, and now he’s calling him incompetent on air,” one furious critic wrote on X. “The loyalty was never real.”
Another blasted both Carlson and Kelly as “sell out frauds,” while others insisted Trump would outlast his critics politically and personally.
The controversy comes as tensions between Trump and several former conservative allies continue to explode in public. Carlson, Kelly, Candace Owens and Alex Jones have all criticized Trump in recent weeks over escalating conflict involving Iran, drawing the president’s fury.
Trump responded with a scorching rant on social media, calling the group “low IQs” and accusing them of siding with Iran.
“They’re stupid people,” Trump wrote. “They’ve all been thrown off television, lost their shows, and aren’t even invited on TV because nobody cares about them.”
The president also mocked their podcast platforms as “third-rate” and accused them of chasing clicks by attacking him.
Trump reserved especially sharp words for Carlson, claiming the former Fox host is a “broken man” who needs to “see a good psychiatrist” following his high-profile firing from Fox News in 2023.
Kelly also found herself back in Trump’s crosshairs after criticizing his handling of Iran-related tensions. Trump dredged up their infamous clash from the 2015 Republican primary debates, once again attacking the longtime broadcaster personally.
Despite the public feuding, Carlson’s comments stand out because they touched on something many in Trump’s orbit rarely discuss openly: what the Republican Party looks like once Trump is no longer dominating American politics.
And judging by the furious reaction online, it’s a conversation many MAGA supporters still don’t want to have.
