A violent night unfolded near a California college campus over Labor Day weekend, leaving four people wounded in two separate shootings just hours after a football game.
Sacramento police said officers were called to the Granite Regional Park area near Cucamonga Avenue and Ramona Avenue around 12:30 a.m. Sunday after reports of gunfire.
When officers arrived, they found three women suffering from gunshot wounds.
Two of the women were rushed to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, while a third woman suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene, according to police.
But the violence did not end there.
A short time later, officers were called to a crash near Folsom Boulevard and State University Drive, where they discovered a man who had also been shot.
He was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.
The incidents happened near Sacramento State University, where authorities had already received reports of gunfire near a parking structure during Saturday night’s college football game.
Those reports prompted a shelter-in-place order on campus as authorities investigated.
Police said it remains unclear whether the later shootings were connected to the gunfire reported during the game.
Investigators have not established a link between the incidents, and no suspect information was immediately released.
The shootings remain under investigation as police work to determine exactly what triggered the violence and whether any of the incidents are connected.
