A quiet Georgia apartment complex turned into a scene of horror last week after a 6-year-old boy was struck and killed by a landscaping truck. The child, identified by family as Macree Snelling, had been riding his scooter just steps from his front door.

Police say the incident unfolded on Jan. 15 outside the Whispering Pines Apartments in LaGrange. Witnesses described a routine afternoon that turned tragic in seconds.

According to his mother, Latouris Bell, Macree was only a few feet from home. Her older son, just 9 years old, saw the moment the landscaping truck hit his little brother. He sprinted inside, screaming for help. Bell says she was getting ready for work when her daughter relayed the terrifying news.

“I heard her yell, and everything inside me dropped,” Bell said. “My baby was just playing. He was always playing.”

Macree was a kindergartner at Callaway Elementary School. Teachers described him as upbeat and full of energy. His mom said the same.

“He was an energetic kid. Always moving. Always smiling,” Bell told reporters. “When he walked in, he would brighten up the whole room. He was the kind of kid who made you laugh even on your worst day.”

In LaGrange, neighbors say the area near the apartment complex is often busy with maintenance trucks, delivery vans, and regular traffic. Several residents told local media the road can be “tight for drivers and kids,” especially in the afternoons when children play outside. Police have not released details about the driver or any potential charges.

Bell said coming to terms with the loss feels impossible. “It feels like an out-of-body experience,” she said. “This is a nightmare.”

The family is now planning a Spider-Man-themed funeral. Macree was obsessed with the superhero. “That was his favorite,” Bell said. “He wanted to be Spider-Man. He really thought he could save the world.”

The tragedy has rattled the school district as well. Troup County Schools announced counseling services for students and staff. “Losing a child affects everyone,” a district representative told local outlets. “Our community is hurting.”

A GoFundMe created by Bell has raised nearly $10,000 as of Jan. 20. The money will help cover funeral expenses and support the family during what she calls “the darkest moment of our lives.”

“He will be deeply missed,” Bell wrote. “This community loved him. And we loved him even more.”

Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
