Where’s the President?

That’s the question circling Washington this week after Donald Trump mysteriously disappeared from the public eye for four straight days — just as world conflicts reignited and Americans waited for leadership.

When he finally resurfaced, it wasn’t behind the Resolute Desk or at a press conference. It was on a golf course in Virginia, slumped in a cart, his ankles visibly swollen and his hands marred with dark purple bruises.

“He looks like an Olympic athlete compared to Trump,” said Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA), defending former President Joe Biden in a fiery CNN interview. “Trump is a broken man who has broken all his promises — and his health is just the start.”

In July, President Trump was diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, a vascular condition that can cause swelling, blood clots, and unsightly bruising in the extremities. The White House acknowledged the diagnosis only after photos went viral showing Trump struggling to walk and gripping railings with discolored hands.

Still, the administration insists he is in “excellent health.” No medical records have been released since his January inauguration — a sharp contrast to the annual transparency promised during his campaign.

“There’s no other way to say it — the man looks sick,” said one former White House staffer on condition of anonymity. “They’re hiding something, and the silence speaks volumes.”

Trump’s unannounced absence came just as Israel launched a targeted strike on Hamas leaders in Qatar, reigniting fears of a broader Middle East war. The White House gave no immediate response. Instead, national security staff issued vague talking points while Trump’s Truth Social account went dark.

“He said he’d end the wars on day one,” Swalwell said. “Instead, Ukraine is crumbling and the Middle East is on fire.”

Indeed, Trump made sweeping promises during his 2024 campaign — pledging to force a Ukraine-Russia peace deal within 24 hours and to “stop the killing” in Gaza. But eight months into his second term, Zelenskyy is begging for aid, and Gaza is now a warzone with no end in sight.

“Let’s get back to peace and stop killing people,” Trump told conservative host Hugh Hewitt in April 2024. But that peace remains elusive.

While President Biden faced relentless media coverage over verbal gaffes and aging optics in his final year in office, Trump’s physical health issues have received relatively muted scrutiny — despite mounting evidence.

In one 2024 Biden clip, the then-president accidentally read the words “pause for applause” from his teleprompter. Republicans called it “disqualifying.” But now, critics say, Trump can vanish for four days with no explanation — and few in the GOP are demanding answers.

“Where’s the outrage now?” Swalwell asked. “This isn’t about age. It’s about honesty. Trump lied to us then, and he’s lying to us now.”

Beyond his health, critics say Trump is failing on nearly every front:

• Inflation remains stubborn despite sweeping tax cuts.
• Gun violence has surged in major cities.
• Trump’s promise to “crush the cartels” has yielded little visible progress at the border.
• His “America First” foreign policy has alienated allies and emboldened adversaries, Democrats argue.

“His body’s giving out,” Swalwell concluded, “and so is his presidency.”
