Social media lit up Sunday night after photographers caught President Donald Trump placing a small blue object between his teeth while watching the U.S. Open men’s final — and the White House isn’t saying what it was.

The moment came during the championship match between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens. Trump, seated courtside alongside Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and members of the Kushner family, appeared to discreetly slip the blue item into his mouth.

Photographer Andres Kudacki, who captured the now-viral image, initially suggested the president was “taking a tablet” but later walked that back.

“I don’t know what it was specifically,” Kudacki told reporters. “I said ‘tablet’ because it could have been a mint or a pill. He was very discreet.”

Within minutes, X (formerly Twitter) erupted with theories. Some users joked that the president was popping Wintergreen Altoids. Others speculated it could have been one of several prescription medications available in blue form — including Hygroton, a drug used to treat high blood pressure and swelling caused by chronic venous insufficiency.

That speculation isn’t unfounded. In July, the White House confirmed that Trump, 79, suffers from chronic venous insufficiency, a condition in which the veins in the legs fail to properly circulate blood back to the heart. The acknowledgment came after weeks of questions about Trump’s visibly swollen ankles and bruised hands.

At the time, Leavitt said Trump’s physician had ordered “comprehensive vascular studies” after the president “noted mild swelling in his lower legs.” A subsequent report showed Trump’s blood pressure at 128/74 — elevated for his age — but the White House refused to confirm whether he was taking additional medication.

According to previous disclosures, Trump currently takes rosuvastatin and ezetimibe to control cholesterol, plus daily aspirin. Back in 2017, his doctors also confirmed he was taking finasteride, a drug used to prevent hair loss.

Sunday’s photo comes at a politically sensitive moment for the president. Over Labor Day weekend, Trump’s absence from public events fueled wild rumors online, with hashtags like #TrumpIsDead and #TrumpDied trending on X for nearly 48 hours.

The White House denied the rumors but has remained tight-lipped about the president’s recent health checks — a silence critics argue is eroding public trust.

“This administration thinks it can hide everything,” tweeted one Democratic strategist. “A 79-year-old president with a known vascular condition pops a blue pill at the U.S. Open, and we’re just supposed to shrug?”

Medical experts, meanwhile, caution against jumping to conclusions. Dr. Michelle Garvey, a New York-based cardiologist, told MSNBC, “It could have been anything from a mint to prescribed medication, but given the president’s history, it’s reasonable for the public to demand transparency.”

The mystery pill isn’t the first time Trump’s oral habits have made headlines. During the infamous 2005 “Access Hollywood” tape, Trump was caught on a hot mic bragging about using Tic Tacs before making unwanted advances on women.

“I better use some Tic Tacs just in case I start kissing her,” Trump said at the time. Tic Tac’s parent company later condemned the remarks, calling them “completely inappropriate and unacceptable.”

The White House has yet to comment on Sunday’s image, but pressure is mounting for clarity about the president’s health and transparency about his medication use.

For now, the photo continues to circulate widely, with millions debating whether the small blue object was an innocent mint — or another clue in a growing saga over the health of America’s oldest president.
