President Donald Trump’s return to Queens was met with a deafening wave of boos on Sunday as his appearance at the U.S. Open men’s final triggered delays, security headaches, and online backlash.

The highly anticipated match between tennis superstars Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner at Arthur Ashe Stadium had been scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. ET. Instead, fans were left waiting in long security lines while Trump’s motorcade shut down access points around Flushing Meadows.

In a statement, the U.S. Open acknowledged the disruption: “As a result of the security measures in place, and to ensure that fans have additional time to get to their seats, we have pushed the start time of today’s match to 2:30 p.m. ET.”

When Trump finally emerged from a private Rolex suite alongside CEO Jean-Frédéric Dufour, the stadium erupted — but not in the way the White House had hoped.

“It wasn’t subtle,” said attendee Mark Vasquez, 42, who traveled from Chicago for the match. “Half the place was booing, some people were yelling, and then others were trying to chant ‘USA.’ It was chaos. I’ve been coming to the Open for years and never seen anything like it.”

Social media lit up instantly. Clips of the crowd’s reaction went viral, racking up millions of views on TikTok and X within hours.

The president wasn’t alone. He arrived flanked by some of his closest allies and family members, including son-in-law Jared Kushner and granddaughter Arabella. Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and Attorney General Pam Bondi were also spotted courtside.

“They held up everything for him,” said Alicia Morales, 29, who posted a video of fans waiting outside security checkpoints. “People were furious. Tickets cost thousands, and we were stuck missing the anthem because of Trump’s arrival.”

Indeed, hundreds of fans were still outside when the national anthem played. Inside, cameras caught Trump saluting as the Jumbotron zoomed in — only to trigger a fresh round of boos.

The White House quickly went on the defensive, posting from its official X account:

“All these Fake News Losers do is lie because their pea-sized brains have been irreversibly destroyed by TDS,” the post read, referencing “Trump Derangement Syndrome,” a phrase MAGA supporters use to mock critics.

Meanwhile, right-wing influencer Bo Loudon painted a very different picture, declaring that “tens of thousands just gave President Trump a POWERFUL, ROARING standing ovation.”

The U.S. Tennis Association had quietly warned broadcasters to avoid lingering on Trump’s arrival. In an email obtained by tennis journalist Ben Rothenberg, officials asked networks to “refrain from showcasing any disruptions or reactions in response to the President’s attendance.”

The move came after Trump’s previous Open appearance in 2015 — when he was still just a Republican frontrunner — also drew heavy boos.

Sunday’s incident wasn’t an isolated case. Just two months ago, Trump faced loud jeers at the FIFA World Cup Final in New Jersey, where clips of fans shouting “Go home!” went viral.

“This isn’t 2016 anymore,” said political analyst Carmen Reyes. “Trump’s brand of spectacle politics doesn’t play as well with broader audiences, especially in places like New York. Every time he steps into an arena outside his MAGA bubble, he’s reminded of that.”

  1. Should just dry up and go away. And to tell people not to boo only encouraged the,. Glad I can’t afford a Rolex. Would not support them based on this.
