A horrifying midair crash over Rio de Janeiro killed six people Sunday morning after two helicopters collided and plunged into the city’s western zone, officials said.
The deadly collision sent both aircraft crashing down, with one helicopter slamming into a car dealership where several electric vehicles were parked, according to Rio de Janeiro’s Military Fire Department. The impact sparked a fire, but crews were able to extinguish the flames before they spread further.
All six people aboard the helicopters were killed.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of the victims, and officials said investigators are still working to determine what caused the aircraft to collide in the sky.
In a surprising development, police said American singer and comedian Oliver Tree was listed among the passengers on paperwork provided to aviation authorities. However, officials stressed that the bodies of those killed have not yet been identified.
The crash remains under investigation.
