A shocking rumor that President Donald Trump had died swept across social media last week, sparking panic, conspiracy theories, and renewed questions about the health of America’s oldest president.
For four straight days, the 79-year-old president remained out of public view — and in Trump-world, that silence was enough to send speculation spiraling. On Saturday, the president finally resurfaced at Trump National Golf Club in Sterling, Virginia, waving to cameras and declaring on Truth Social: “NEVER FELT BETTER IN MY LIFE.”
But behind the scenes, tensions inside the Trump camp are boiling over.
Eric Trump, the president’s third child with the late Ivana Trump, unleashed fury online after the “Trump is dead” rumors trended.
“The radical left is so sick and twisted,” he posted on X, blaming Democrats and “anti-Trump media” for fueling what he called “disgusting lies” about his father’s health.
Eric then reposted his father’s “never felt better” statement, but his attempt to shut down speculation backfired. Critics quickly resurfaced his own 2020 remarks questioning then-President Joe Biden’s mental fitness, accusing him of hypocrisy.
Concerns about Trump’s physical condition have been building for months. Photos from an Oval Office meeting with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung on August 25 showed bruising on the back of Trump’s right hand.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt dismissed concerns, blaming the discoloration on “constant hand-shaking” and daily aspirin use.
But reports of swollen ankles, uneven gait, and repeated verbal gaffes have intensified scrutiny. Earlier this year, the White House confirmed Trump suffers from chronic venous insufficiency, a circulation issue that causes swelling in the legs but is “not life-threatening” if managed properly.
Still, his four-day disappearance — coupled with these lingering health questions — created the perfect storm for conspiracy theories.
Vice President JD Vance unintentionally added fuel to the fire when he told USA Today last week that he was “prepared to step in if a terrible tragedy befell the president.”
While Vance later clarified that he was “very confident” Trump would “serve out the remainder of his term and do great things for the American people,” his comment triggered another wave of online speculation.
“It’s almost like they’re soft-launching a transition,” one Democratic strategist told us. “The messaging has been sloppy, and that’s why these rumors keep catching fire.”
In a strange twist, Trump’s critics on the far-right are also seizing on the moment. White nationalist Nick Fuentes, once a Trump ally, claimed on X that there’s a “Biden-style cover-up” surrounding the president’s health.
“There is obviously something going on with Trump that the White House is hiding,” Fuentes wrote. “This is literally Biden 2.0.”
The Trump administration has faced relentless questions about transparency since returning to the White House in 2025. His refusal to release updated medical records — something Biden did during his presidency — has only fueled suspicions.
Democratic lawmakers are now calling for an independent review of the president’s health, arguing that the public deserves full transparency given his age and the demands of the job.
“Americans need to know their president is fit to lead,” Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) said Monday. “We cannot afford secrets when national security and global stability are at stake.”
For now, Trump insists he’s in “perfect health” and is expected to make several high-profile appearances this week, including a campaign-style rally in Pennsylvania on Friday.
But with the president pushing 80 and whispers about succession growing louder, expect his health — and Eric Trump’s outrage — to remain at the center of political debate heading into 2026.
