Michelle Obama is opening up once again about her candid 2022 comments regarding her marriage to former President Barack Obama.
On the latest episode of her podcast, IMO with Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson, co-hosted with her older brother, Craig, guest Dwyane Wade brought up Michelle’s viral remark from 2022, where she admitted there was a time she “couldn’t stand” Barack.
Wade, joined by his wife Gabrielle Union, reflected on his own marriage before asking Michelle about the statement. “We’re 10 years in,” Wade said. “I heard you say that you had 10 years where you didn’t even like Barack, so I’m like, man, where is that coming from?”
“You know, I just tell the truth,” Michelle replied. “If you’re married for 30 years, you’re going to have periods where it’s tough. And if somebody told you a third of those years wouldn’t be great, you’d still take the odds. Marriage is beautiful, but it’s also difficult. You don’t just walk away in the hard times, or you miss all the beauty because you think it has to be perfect. It’s never perfect.”
Michelle first opened up about this challenging period during a 2022 Revolt TV roundtable, revealing that those “tough years” came when their daughters, Malia and Sasha, were little.
The episode sparked a wave of support online, with YouTube viewers praising Michelle’s honesty and relatability. One fan commented, “Michelle is such a beautiful and brilliant woman.
