What once bloomed with history and color has now been paved over—literally. President Donald Trump’s 2025 redesign of the White House Rose Garden has sparked a wave of online fury, with critics calling it everything from “sterile” to “symbolic of decay.”

The newly unveiled design features a large, gray terrace of poured concrete and stone slabs where grass and roses once flourished. Gone is the lush lawn once envisioned by First Lady Jackie Kennedy. In its place? What some are calling “a MAGA-branded parking lot.”

“It’s like he bulldozed Camelot,” tweeted one user. “What’s next—Mount Rushmore covered in AstroTurf?”

First planted in 1913 and later redesigned in 1961 by Jacqueline Kennedy, the Rose Garden has long been a symbol of presidential dignity and American elegance. Now, with its bland stone floor and absence of color, critics say Trump has drained the soul from the historic site.

“Trump turned a national treasure into a sidewalk,” environmental activist Winona Taylor told BlueWave News. “It’s not just an aesthetic tragedy—it’s a metaphor for the concrete-minded, lifeless tone of this administration.”

Back in March, Trump appeared on The Ingraham Angle to defend the controversial changes. His reason? Women kept tripping.

“You know, the grass didn’t work,” Trump said. “Women in heels, press people, they fall—it’s dangerous. We fixed it.”

Critics weren’t buying it.

“He’s worried about women in heels, but not about women losing reproductive rights or clean air?” said Rep. Jasmine Gomez (D-CA). “This is who he is. He repaves beauty and calls it progress.”

While the White House has remained silent since the backlash erupted, Americans haven’t. Social media is ablaze with commentary:

  • “Looks like a mausoleum.”
  • “He killed the roses like he’s killing everything else that made America great.”
  • “Even the cement is embarrassed.”

One X user quipped, “It’s like the Rose Garden went through a hostile corporate takeover.”

Another posted side-by-side photos of the garden in 1978 with President Carter and Vice President Mondale surrounded by blossoms—next to Trump’s cold new slab—with the caption: “From hope to hopeless.”

The Rose Garden has seen everything from Supreme Court nominations to peace treaty announcements. It’s where America has mourned, celebrated, and debated. And now? It’s a stone stage critics say is better suited for ego-driven pressers than presidential leadership.

“This is not modernization,” said White House historian Ava Kravitz. “It’s erasure.”

As of publication, the Biden Foundation, the Kennedy Center, and multiple historical preservation groups have condemned the project. The White House did not respond to requests for comment.

But one thing is clear: In trying to “fix” a garden, President Trump may have unintentionally buried a piece of American history—and planted nothing in its place.

    1. Trump is planning lots of parties and celebrations outdoors and indoors this time as he kicks the evil Democrats’ asses… I hope to be in on some of them… If Democrats attempt another Plandemic, Trump knows to just laugh at them this time and keep on partying!
The new room will prolly be named The President Donald Trump Memorial BallRoom !!!

  1. Well loved the flowers and grass however understand his point. Why such drama, is just another excuse for the liberals to compla

  2. “Just because you can”, doesn’t mean you should. And I would think tearing apart a historical place like the White House would be a huge no-no, and that would include the grounds the building sits on. And it didn’t improve the area one bit. It’s sterilized it, made it worse. I don’t care what their “reason(s)” were/are … it lacks taste, and class … and a few other things.

    1. U lack taste. Use ur imagination to beautiful
Trump didn’t spend a dime on this. I unlike the previous dumbiden and traitorbama

  3. How much did this cost? Again take away from the people who need programs for living, claiming its to save the government money and turn around to spend money to change our Whitehouse? Another ego trip. Now he can brag how he was the one to change the Whitehouse! I’m almost 70 and this is the first I heard about ladies heels being stuck and people falling. My guess his wife’s heel got stuck and he was pissed. I’d rather fall in grass than on concrete. Doesn’t he think to ask the people what think? And how many or even how many of us will even be able to use this thing? And what’s up with Kennedy? He was ok having a family garden bulldozed? I believe Trump wants to do everything he can to change the Whitehouse and any history he can while he is in then he will always be the president who changed history. He is a spoiled, rich, massive ego minded, spiteful man. People better wake up, take the blinders off before next election because I feel we will never be the same country again.

  4. I agree it\’s a CEMENT GRAVEYARD! NOTHING HE DOES, DOESN\’T SURPRISE ME! TRUMP DESTROYS EVERYTHING HE TOUCHES & THINKS! HE IS CRAZY!

  5. Seams to be a lot of TDS on here. No I do not think this” patio” was the right thing to do. Jackie Kennedy’s garden was a much better thin. Even though I do not agree with it I still stand with DT and hiss effort to make America better. Obama divided it and Biden did all he could to destroy it.

  6. As always Next Gen would not post my comment. Just one more bunch who don’t believe in freedom of speech.
