President Donald Trump’s overseas trip turned into a political bagpipe blues concert this week — and he wasn’t the headliner.

In what was supposed to be a high-stakes media moment ahead of a private meeting with new U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Trump found himself nearly drowned out — not by reporters or protesters, but by a rogue bagpiper who refused to yield. The musical ambush happened Monday morning on the grounds of his Turnberry golf resort, while Trump was attempting to boast about his foreign policy record.

“If I weren’t around, right now you’d have six major wars going on,” Trump managed to say, shouting over the blaring skirl of the pipes. “Nobody’s ever done what we’ve done. It’s an honor to do it. It’s not hard for me to do it.”

The awkward moment set the tone for a rocky weekend abroad.

Scotland Sends a Message

While Trump tried to polish his image, Scotland sent a different signal. His arrival Friday was greeted with front-page mockery from The National, which ran the headline: “CONVICTED US FELON TO ARRIVE IN SCOTLAND.” That was just the start.

Protesters swarmed the roads from Glasgow to Turnberry, waving signs linking Trump to the ongoing Epstein scandal and denouncing his foreign policies. One group posted a massive banner outside Trump International in Aberdeen that read: “Twinned with Epstein Island.”

In Edinburgh, demonstrators lined the streets outside the U.S. consulate throughout the weekend. Meanwhile, in Glasgow and Aberdeen, marches condemning the president’s visit continued for three straight days, culminating in a Saturday night candlelight vigil for victims of political corruption.

“He’s not welcome here,” said Fiona McLeish, an Edinburgh teacher and protest organizer. “Trump represents everything Scotland rejects — elitism, dishonesty, and unchecked power.”

More Golf, Less Diplomacy

Trump, whose mother was born on the Isle of Lewis, may have expected a hero’s welcome in the land of his ancestry. Instead, he spent most of his time golfing behind the walls of his heavily fortified resort — even being chauffeured in an armored golf cart.

The optics were far from presidential. “It’s like watching a convicted felon on vacation while the world burns,” said political analyst Jamal Harris. “And frankly, it’s offensive to people who still believe the presidency should stand for something.”

Despite the international outcry, Trump continued to promote his own legacy. “We’ve done tremendous things. Tremendous,” he said Sunday while holding up a golf ball for reporters. “And the people here love me, even if the fake news says otherwise.”

EU Deal Backfires Immediately

Earlier in the weekend, Trump had met with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to finalize a new U.S.-EU trade deal — a supposed win for his administration. But even that quickly soured.

Just hours after the agreement was announced, The Wall Street Journal editorial board called the deal “odd,” claiming it “abandons core U.S. trade objectives” and hands too many concessions to Brussels. One headline bluntly read: “Trump’s EU Surrender.”

The president, visibly irritated, told reporters, “I’m actually not in a good mood,” before abruptly ending the press gaggle.

The Epstein Cloud

Adding to the chaos is the deepening Epstein Files scandal, which has entangled members of Trump’s inner circle — and sparked new scrutiny over his administration’s actions.

While Trump has repeatedly denied wrongdoing, insiders say he’s privately fuming over the media’s relentless coverage. “He thinks this trip will distract people,” one White House staffer told us under condition of anonymity. “But it’s doing the opposite. The world is watching — and laughing.”

A Visit That Backfired

From the blaring bagpipes to scathing headlines, President Trump’s Turnberry tour is being seen by many as a diplomatic disaster.

Keir Starmer, for his part, kept things polite — but distant. “We look forward to constructive dialogue,” the British PM said flatly, before quickly retreating indoors.

Meanwhile, the bagpiper who nearly upstaged the leader of the free world has reportedly received dozens of drinks and fan offers from locals. One protester quipped, “That piper spoke louder than Trump ever could — and he didn’t even need a mic.”
