Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump made a rare joint appearance at the White House — but one body language expert says the president appeared determined to make it clear who was in charge.

Melania stepped back into the public spotlight on August 20 for an event promoting her Fostering the Future initiative, marking her first public appearance in more than a month.

But as the first lady attempted to highlight her foster-care project, body language expert Inbaal Honigman claimed Trump repeatedly positioned himself as the dominant figure beside his wife.

“During their Rose Garden appearance, the President appears keen to make it known that he is the boss in his marriage, and Melania lets him take that honor publicly,” Honigman told RadarOnline.com.

The expert pointed specifically to the moment Trump led Melania into the event while holding her hand.

“As they step over the threshold, DJT is seen leading Melania by the hand,” Honigman said. “His hand is decisively over hers, indicating superiority and leaving no room for doubt.”

She went even further, claiming Trump appeared to be signaling that he was the “CEO” of the relationship.

The appearance came after weeks in which Melania was largely absent from public view. Her previous public outing was reportedly at the World Cup final in New Jersey on July 19.

Trump opened the White House event with remarks before handing the podium to Melania, who announced the latest expansion of Fostering the Future.

The initiative received a $2 million donation funded by IndyCar and Fox Corporation that will help provide scholarships for students from the foster-care community at Indiana University and Purdue University.

But even after Trump stepped away from the microphone, Honigman claimed his posture continued to command attention.

As Trump and Melania sat beside one another listening to FOX Sports CEO Eric Shanks and IndyCar President Doug Boles, Trump leaned forward while Melania sat farther back in her chair.

According to Honigman, that posture made Trump appear alert, protective — and dominant.

“His stance expresses readiness, alertness, and even a protective approach, as though he’s ready to defend his wife from any predators,” she said.

“His stance suggests that anyone who wants to talk to her has to go through him first.”

Honigman also claimed Melania appeared comfortable allowing Trump to take the lead, pointing to the first lady crossing her legs in his direction.

“Melania appears absolutely on board with letting her husband lead,” she said.

Still, reading a marriage through a handful of public gestures is hardly an exact science, and body language interpretations remain subjective. The Trumps themselves did not publicly characterize their interaction in those terms.

The couple, who have now been married for 21 years, also displayed moments of apparent closeness during the event.

Honigman noted that Trump and Melania whispered to one another and appeared to mirror some of each other’s facial expressions — something she said could suggest familiarity developed over a long relationship.

“They whisper intimately into each other’s ears, staying close together and displaying similar facial expressions,” she said.

“Mirroring facial expressions are a mark of a long-term, close relationship, when a couple begins to talk and think alike.”

The event nevertheless offered a rare glimpse of Melania during Trump’s second term, when the first lady has maintained a notably lower public profile than many of her predecessors.

And even on a day devoted to her own initiative, Trump once again managed to become part of the story.

  1. The Trumps know how to put on a public act… Melania is busy as both she and her son have a price on their heads… as does Donald, of course…
