In a stunning political development, a new Wall Street Journal poll reveals that the Democratic Party is facing its worst public perception in over three decades—just months ahead of the pivotal 2026 midterms.

According to the data, a staggering 63% of voters now view the Democratic Party unfavorably, while a mere 8% say they view it “very favorably.” That marks the lowest favorability rating for the party since the Journal began polling on the issue back in 1990.

Even more alarming for Democrat strategists? The numbers were compiled by a bipartisan team of pollsters—including President Trump’s longtime numbers man, Tony Fabrizio, and veteran Democratic pollster John Anzalone, who worked on both Biden and Clinton-era campaigns.

“The Democratic brand is so bad that they don’t have the credibility to be a critic of Trump or the Republican Party,” Anzalone admitted to the Journal. “Until they reconnect with real voters and working people on who they’re for and what their economic message is, they’re going to have problems.”

And those problems are already here.

Despite widespread criticism of how President Donald Trump has handled inflation, tariffs, and foreign policy in his second term, voters appear to trust Republicans far more on issues like jobs, border security, and the economy—areas that have long swung elections.

“People may not love how Trump talks, but they remember how he delivered,” said Lisa Moreno, a former Obama voter in Pennsylvania who switched to Trump in 2024. “Gas is down, wages are up, and he actually does what he says.”

Democratic officials are scrambling to change course. In recent weeks, party leaders have tried to refocus on “kitchen table” issues like health care, wages, and housing. But critics say the message still isn’t landing.

“The problem isn’t the volume of their message—it’s the message itself,” said GOP strategist Harlan Cruz. “They keep trying to sell fear about Trump, but the American people are living through a reality where he looks like the only adult in the room.”

As the 2026 midterms approach, Democrats now face an uphill climb to rebuild trust among swing voters, blue-collar workers, and independents. Meanwhile, Trump’s GOP is gaining momentum—and showing no signs of slowing down.

If Democrats can’t fix their image fast, they might be heading for another electoral bloodbath.
