“This helps no one. Not Joe. Not the Democrats. Not even Hunter,” says former NBC anchor as first son’s explosive media tour turns into a political headache.
Hunter Biden may have thought he was reclaiming his narrative — but his wild, profanity-laced media blitz is now drawing fire from unlikely places, including seasoned political commentator Chuck Todd, who says the tour has done nothing but hand more ammo to Republicans and damage an already wounded Democratic Party.
“This isn’t therapy. It’s performance,” Todd said on his podcast Friday. “And it’s hurting the very people Hunter claims to support.”
The 55-year-old son of former President Joe Biden appeared on two podcasts this week—Andrew Callaghan’s edgy Channel 5 and former DNC Chair Jaime Harrison’s more buttoned-up At Our Table—delivering an unfiltered monologue full of grievances, addictions, and behind-the-scenes Biden family drama.
But instead of softening public opinion or building sympathy, Hunter’s rants have sparked backlash—even from within Democratic circles.
Explosive Claims, Raw Language
In clips that quickly went viral, Hunter slammed longtime Democratic allies and figures in a tone many found self-destructive and erratic.
He torched actor-activist George Clooney as “not a f—ing actor, just a brand,” dismissed CNN’s Jake Tapper as irrelevant with “the smallest audience on cable,” and derided legendary Democratic strategist James Carville as someone who “hasn’t won a race in 40 f—ing years.”
Even progressive podcast hosts from Pod Save America weren’t safe. Hunter labeled them “junior f—ing speechwriters.”
But the most jaw-dropping moment came when Hunter revealed that Joe Biden was on Ambien before his now-infamous June 2024 debate against Donald Trump—an admission that shocked many Democrats still reeling from that disastrous night.
“He’s 81. He’d just flown across the world. He was exhausted,” Hunter said. “They gave him Ambien to help him sleep. He got on stage looking like a deer in the headlights.”
The White House has not commented.
A Democrat’s Dilemma
Chuck Todd, who spent years at NBC moderating Meet the Press, was unsparing in his analysis.
“I don’t think this does Hunter Biden any good. I don’t think this does Joe Biden any good. And it certainly doesn’t help Democrats heading into the 2026 midterms,” Todd said.
He criticized the podcasts for booking Hunter in the first place.
“If you’re inviting Hunter Biden onto your show, you’re not pursuing journalism—you’re chasing spectacle,” he said. “This wasn’t about truth. It was about going viral.”
Todd confirmed he would never give Hunter a platform.
“He’s not the candidate. He’s not even in public office. He’s a son defending his dad. That’s not newsworthy—at least not in the way these shows presented it.”
Democrats Distancing — But Silently
As of Saturday, top Democrats have remained tight-lipped about Hunter’s appearances—likely wary of alienating Joe Biden loyalists while quietly hoping the first son steps back from the mic.
Behind closed doors, one senior Democratic staffer told us, “We’re all just praying this tour ends before it becomes a full-blown liability. We’re still recovering from 2024. This isn’t helping.”
The 2024 election saw President Donald Trump return to the White House after defeating Joe Biden in a bitter, exhausting campaign. The debate Hunter referenced—marked by Joe’s stumbling delivery and blank stares—was widely cited as the moment the race turned.
Hunter’s media offensive appears to be an attempt to rewrite that narrative. But as even Democrats are now admitting, the effort may be doing more harm than good.
“Hunter’s trying to fight ghosts,” said the former staffer. “But in doing so, he’s dragging the rest of us down with him.”
