President Donald Trump is finally admitting what U.S. intelligence and much of the world warned him about for years — Vladimir Putin can’t be trusted. But instead of taking responsibility, Trump is lashing out like a scorned ally, accusing the Russian strongman of humiliating him.

“Putin talks nice and then bombs everybody in the evening… I don’t like it,” Trump said Sunday evening, visibly irritated as he spoke to reporters after the FIFA Club World Cup final in New Jersey.

This marks a rare and abrupt shift from a president who, since returning to office in January 2025, has consistently downplayed Russian aggression and pressured Ukraine to concede territory. On the campaign trail, Trump had vowed to end the war in Ukraine “on Day One.” Instead, he’s found himself repeatedly outmaneuvered by a dictator he once praised.

From Praise to Patriot Missiles

Trump’s frustrations seem to have finally boiled over. After initially agreeing with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to pause U.S. military assistance to Ukraine, Trump now says he’s reversing course and sending Patriot missile systems to defend Ukrainian skies — though not without a jab at America’s allies.

“We’ll send them some Patriots,” Trump said. “But the European Union’s paying. We’re not paying anything. This is business for us.”

His sudden reversal came just days after Putin unleashed one of the most devastating aerial attacks yet — over 700 drones and missiles were launched into Ukraine in a single night, striking civilian infrastructure including a maternity hospital in Kharkiv and residential buildings in Lviv.

‘He Gave Me Bulls–t’

A source close to the president said Trump feels personally insulted. “He thought Putin would respect him. Instead, he’s embarrassed him — over and over,” the source said. On Sunday, Trump didn’t hold back.

“We get a lot of bulls–t thrown at us by Putin,” Trump admitted in a moment of rare candor. “He’s very nice all the time, but it turns out to be meaningless.”

Trump’s fury isn’t just performative, according to insiders. “He’s really p—ed,” Sen. Lindsey Graham told Axios. “His announcement on Monday is going to be aggressive.”

That announcement, set to coincide with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte’s visit to the White House, could include new sanctions — a stunning development given Trump’s long-standing reluctance to confront Russia economically.

A Broken Bromance

Trump and Putin’s once-cozy relationship appears to be unraveling. From their smiling photo ops in past summits to the icy language now used by the president, the shift is dramatic. Even some within Trump’s inner circle admit the illusion is shattered.

“He thought Putin was a dealmaker like him,” one former aide said. “But Putin’s just a predator.”

Meanwhile, Trump is cautiously repairing ties with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, after famously berating him in an Oval Office meeting back in February, accusing him of “gambling with World War III.” At the recent NATO summit, however, the two reportedly had a “cordial and respectful” exchange.

“Zelensky came like a normal human being, not crazy,” said a U.S. official familiar with the meeting. “He looked like someone who belonged at NATO — and that seemed to change something for Trump.”

The Bottom Line

After months of trying to appease Putin and pressure Ukraine, Trump is facing the harsh truth: diplomacy doesn’t work when your counterpart is bombing civilians after each handshake.

Whether Trump’s pivot is genuine or just political theater remains to be seen. But for now, the president is trying to sound tough — even as his past friendliness with Putin comes back to haunt him.

  1. Peace loving Trump had a peace deal between Putin and Zelenskyy months ago, but Zelenskyy, influenced by wars loving Europe, refused to sign… so the war drags on and warmongering Liberal Elite Communist Putin isn’t going to unilaterally end it… his own body isn’t at risk… but should be…

  2. This is good not bad on the part of Trump. See Trump is not an ideologe he’s a realist. He tries one process and it doesn’t work now he’ll put more pressure on Lutin to make the consequences of continuing the war more painful for the Putin regime then ending it!!!

At least he’ll make moves which Biden/Harris were incapable of.

Trump has been reluctant in strong sanctions because Our European Allies depend on Russia for so much of their energy!! But he’s now going to do it anyway after explaining the plan at the NATO summit!

  3. trump=putin puppet. lay odds, every time putin hangs up the phone with trump, he & his bunch are probably rolling on the floor with laughter.
