Michelle Obama isn’t holding back when it comes to defending her loved ones. On a buzzy new episode of the Las Culturistas podcast, the former first lady revealed what it’s really like to watch her husband and daughters endure life in the public eye—and she admits it can be “uncomfortable.”

Under the Spotlight Since Day One

Since marrying Barack Obama in 1992, Michelle, now 61, has spent more than three decades in the spotlight. Together, the Obamas raised two daughters, Malia and Sasha, under the intense glare of American politics. But while Barack Obama is known for his cool, collected persona, Michelle says her own instincts are a bit more fiery.

“My husband has a very calm demeanor, and I think he was built for the job,” Michelle explained. “I am a little more feisty, less so for myself but more for him. I get my back reared up when somebody goes after [Barack] and they don’t appreciate his intellect and his sacrifice.”

And if you think Michelle draws the line at her husband, think again. She’s crystal clear about her role as a protective mother: “Don’t go after my kids.”

The Reality of Growing Up Obama

Raising children in the White House meant the Obama daughters faced challenges most American teens could only imagine. Michelle recounted moments where her “mommy mode” took over, especially when Malia or Sasha encountered negativity just because of their famous last name.

“Kids respond the way their parents respond, and all throughout the White House, my thing was, ‘This is normal, you’ll be fine, it’s OK,’” she said. “Yes, there are men with guns at your school because your dad’s here for parent-teacher conferences, but keep going. It’s not about you.”

But behind the scenes, the struggle was real. “I had to practice being OK with it—for the sake of them,” Michelle shared. She admitted that hiding her own concerns was part of the job. “I couldn’t voice too much concern because then they would start panicking, right?”

Social Media Buzz and Fan Reactions

The episode quickly made waves online. Fans swarmed the Las Culturistas Instagram, celebrating the candid conversation. One user gushed, “Squealing! I’m so proud of the two of you!!” TV star Dexter Mayfield called the crossover “MAAAAAJJOORR.” Another excited commenter simply wrote, “You got MISS MICHELLE!! Come on!!!” complete with a parade of fire emojis.

What’s Next for Michelle and the Podcast Scene

If you want more unfiltered Michelle Obama, she’s also co-hosting “IMO with Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson,” where she teams up with her older brother to tackle life, family, and everything in between. Both shows drop fresh episodes every Wednesday on platforms like Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and YouTube.

Bottom Line:
Michelle Obama might have mastered the art of calm in public, but when it comes to her husband and kids, this momma bear is always ready to roar.
