A heartbreaking search has taken a dark and disturbing turn after Saturday Night Live writer Jimmy Fowlie revealed his missing sister, Christina Lynn Downer, has been found dead — and now investigators believe something far more sinister may have been at play.
Four months after Downer, 38, vanished in Los Angeles, Fowlie announced that police have officially shifted the case from a missing persons search to a homicide investigation. The devastating update came in an emotional Instagram post on April 29, where the grieving brother confirmed what no family ever wants to hear.
“The LAPD has informed our family that Christina is no longer alive,” Fowlie wrote. “Our prayers for her safe return have now turned into prayers for truth and justice.”
But what’s sending chills through this case is what happened before she disappeared.
According to Fowlie, there’s strong reason to believe Downer’s phone and social media accounts were hijacked in the weeks leading up to her disappearance — allegedly used by someone else to create a false narrative that she had chosen to “go off the grid.” Even more alarming, those accounts were reportedly used to ask others for money while masking the reality that she was already missing.
Fowlie didn’t hold back, suggesting whoever is responsible may have been trying to erase his sister entirely.
“I believe whoever did this is hoping to erase her in every way possible,” he wrote, urging the public to keep her story alive.
Downer was last heard from on November 26, and was later reported missing in December. At the time, Fowlie pleaded for help online, sharing missing person flyers and details about her last known whereabouts in Los Angeles, particularly around Koreatown. He also noted she was deeply attached to her dog, Rex — a detail he hoped would help people recognize her.
Throughout the agonizing months, Fowlie continued posting updates, insisting his sister had no history of disappearing or cutting off contact. “I’m thinking about her every day,” he wrote in January, clinging to hope that she would be found safe.
Now, that hope has been shattered.
In his latest message, Fowlie shared photos of his sister from childhood through adulthood, remembering her as “a beautiful person who matters in this world.” He also made a desperate plea: that anyone with information come forward.
“My sister can no longer advocate for herself,” he wrote. “But I can.”
Authorities have not yet released details about how or where Downer was found, and the investigation remains ongoing.
As the case unfolds, one haunting question lingers: who was behind the digital trail that masked her disappearance — and how long had the truth been hidden?
