Actress says MAGA friendship would be impossible: “I believe in science. That’s the line.”

Carrie Coon isn’t mincing words. The Emmy-nominated actress behind fan-favorite roles in The LeftoversThe Gilded Age, and now HBO’s The White Lotus, made waves Friday with a fiery appearance on The View—and she didn’t hold back on politics.

“I could never be close to someone who supports Donald Trump,” Coon said bluntly. “There was a time when we could disagree and still connect. But this? This is something else entirely.”

Speaking to the daytime panel during a discussion on Trump’s controversial new “Big Beautiful Bill”—a sweeping piece of legislation that includes $45 billion for detention center expansion—Coon warned that America is barreling toward authoritarianism. And she believes the damage is already being done.

“When your entire worldview is built around a leader who controls the flow of information, it’s a closed loop,” Coon said. “There’s no factual ground to even begin a discussion. I believe in science. So where exactly do we meet in the middle?”

A Political Divide, Onscreen and Off

Coon’s White Lotus character Laurie raised eyebrows this season when blindsided by Kate (played by Leslie Bibb) revealing she voted for Trump. The tension on screen mirrored Coon’s real-life views.

“That moment is real for a lot of people,” she said. “You think you know someone, and suddenly politics reveals something deeper.”

She explained that the storyline was originally meant to go even further. Showrunner Mike White had scripted Laurie as the mother of a nonbinary or possibly transgender child. Coon told The Hollywood Reporter in April that White ended up pulling back from the concept, fearing it would feel “too political” amid rising attacks on the LGBTQ+ community.

“But if that storyline had stayed,” Coon added, “Kate’s vote would’ve felt even more like a betrayal. That’s where we are now.”

A Mother, Not Just an Actress

When Joy Behar pivoted to a lighter topic—Coon’s spending habits—Coon wasn’t done making her point.

“This bill is redefining who gets locked up,” she said, citing language used by Trump referring to immigrants and protesters as “animals” and “insurrectionists.” “That’s not just rhetoric. That’s policy now. And anyone could end up targeted.”

Asked whether she believes Trump voters will wake up when these policies start hitting home, Coon wasn’t optimistic.

“Narrative is everything,” she said. “It’s easier to tell people to blame immigrants or trans kids than to explain how billionaires are robbing them blind.”

Taking the Risk, Loud and Clear

The moment didn’t go unnoticed. Behar commended Coon for her candor, saying, “Most actors stay quiet because they’re afraid it’ll hurt their careers. This was brave.”

Coon shrugged it off: “I’m a mom first.”

Coon has previously clashed with conservative figures, including Meghan McCain, and has made it clear she’s not interested in staying neutral. With her White Lotus role shining a spotlight on ideological divides in a tense global setting, Coon seems determined to speak truth both on-screen and off.

In an industry where many still play it safe, Carrie Coon is making it clear—she’s not interested in small talk when democracy’s on the line.

  2. Talking about racism, she’s a picture of it! With an attitude like that, why is she still living in the United States?

  3. No one cares what you say, think or do. President Trump won forty-four Sates in a national mandate! Live with it!

  4. Carrie Coon, who ever this disgusting low life bitch is , is a despicable lowlife anti-American who aligns her ideals with the other lowlife bitches of the View. These idiots aren’t with the cost of the dynamite to blow them all to hell!! I can only pray these filthy rats receive their just reward in Hell

    1. you just might be on the FBI’s list after such comments. might wanna keep the militia style talk in your head.

  5. I will never understand why these actresses, actors and TV personalities have the audacity to express their negative opinions about
President Trump; knowing, probably, just as many Republicans or MAGA
Supporters go to see their movies or watch them on TV. It wasn’t that many years ago when you people thought Donald Trump was the greatest! Many of us didn’t agree with Obama‘s or Biden’s decisions during their terms, but we never went to the extent that you people do
    to discredit our president.

  6. Coon. Isn’t that an animal which wears a mask? A little like the protesters who are against the laws of the constitution. Useless piece of democrat trash. A complete no body.

  7. Who cares about what an actor thinks. Does she have a PHD in Government or Constitutional law. She needs to read the Constitution and learn about the over reach of minor judicial judges.

  8. EVERYONE is entitled to their opinion. how can all yall be sure we want to hear from you? same damn thing.
