Far-right provocateur Laura Loomer is once again grasping for relevance—this time by pitching herself as Donald Trump’s personal gatekeeper for international students trying to study in the U.S.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) Wednesday morning, Loomer called it her “dream job” to comb through the social media accounts of foreign applicants and block those she deems “radical” from entering the country.
“I would love to research foreign students all day and find an excuse to block them… Sign me up,” she wrote.
This comes amid a broader crackdown from the Trump administration, which recently halted new student visa interviews as the State Department prepares to roll out a sweeping expansion of social media vetting for visa applicants. The directive, confirmed by a leaked internal cable signed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, instructed embassies worldwide to pause visa interviews “until further guidance is issued.”
A Conspiracy Theorist with Trump’s Ear
Loomer—a self-proclaimed “proud Islamophobe” and 9/11 conspiracy theorist—has long orbited Trump’s inner circle, often appearing at MAGA events and even chatting with the president at a LIV Golf tournament last summer.
Now, she appears to be openly angling for a formal role.
According to the leaked memo, the Trump administration is preparing to implement “an expansion of required social media screening and vetting,” a move that will have “significant implications” for embassies’ daily operations. The policy is being framed as a national security initiative—but critics warn it’s a Trojan horse for censorship and anti-immigrant discrimination.
Targeting Palestinian Voices
Loomer’s comments arrive as the Trump White House intensifies its campaign against pro-Palestinian activism on college campuses—particularly after months of student protests denouncing Israel’s military campaign in Gaza.
Several students, including green card holders like Columbia’s Mahmoud Khalil, have been detained or face possible deportation under the administration’s vague definitions of “radicalism.” Advocates say it’s a chilling attack on First Amendment rights.
“These young people are being punished for expressing solidarity with Palestinians,” said Maya Levy, an immigration attorney working on Khalil’s case. “It’s unconstitutional, and it’s un-American.”
Loomer, however, has cheered the crackdown. She has repeatedly referred to campus protests as “terrorism” and demanded harsher penalties.
Firing Squad Mentality
This isn’t Loomer’s first attempt to play personnel manager in Trump’s shadow government. She has previously taken credit for orchestrating the ousters of senior National Security Council officials—accusing them of being “disloyal to President Trump.”
Among the names she claims to have helped push out: intelligence director Brian Walsh, legislative affairs chief Thomas Boodry, and tech security lead David Feith. She also bragged about the removal of National Security Adviser Mike Waltz and his deputy Alex Wong.
In her latest plea, Loomer isn’t just asking for a job—she’s trying to cement herself as a gatekeeper of Trumpism, willing to trawl through TikToks and Instagram posts in search of foreign students to keep out of the country.
What’s Next?
Whether Loomer lands a job or not, her post signals where the Trump administration may be heading: deeper into ideological vetting, broader crackdowns on student activism, and a hardline immigration policy dressed up as national security.
“She wants to weaponize bureaucracy to police political thought,” said Dr. Anya Rahim, a civil liberties expert at Georgetown University. “This is about silencing dissent under the guise of safety.”
As for Loomer? She’s still waiting for the call.
“Dream job,” she wrote. “Sign me up.”
