Walmart Horror: Employee Kills Two Co-Workers, Shoots Another Before Turning Gun on Himself

In a chilling rampage that left a community reeling, a Walmart worker in Covington, Georgia, went on a deadly shooting spree early Friday morning, killing two fellow employees and critically wounding another before fleeing the scene and shooting himself during a police standoff.

The Newton County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the first shots rang out around 1:30 a.m. at the Walmart on Industrial Boulevard, roughly 35 miles east of Atlanta. The store was closed to customers at the time, but several overnight employees were inside.

According to investigators, the shooter—also a Walmart employee—briefly left the building, retrieved a firearm from a vehicle, and returned inside with deadly intent.

“He went in with a mission,” said Sheriff Ezell Brown. “This wasn’t random. These were targeted attacks against individuals he knew personally.”

The first victim, a male colleague, was gunned down inside the store. The suspect then exited the building and confronted a second victim—another employee—outside. That person was shot and rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

But the violence didn’t stop there.

After fleeing the Walmart, the shooter drove to a nearby neighborhood, forced his way into a home, and murdered a woman identified as a former co-worker or close acquaintance, authorities said. The motive behind the attack is still under investigation, but officials suspect a personal dispute.

Hours later, law enforcement tracked the suspect across state lines to Aiken County, South Carolina—more than 100 miles away. A tense standoff unfolded between the suspect and local deputies. It ended when the suspect turned the gun on himself in what appeared to be a suicide attempt. He survived and is now hospitalized under police watch.

“No deputies were harmed during the standoff,” confirmed Aiken County Sheriff Michael Hunt. “The suspect is in custody and being treated.”

Walmart issued a statement expressing shock and sorrow: “We’re heartbroken by what’s happened. There’s no place for violence in our stores. We’re focused on taking care of our associates and supporting law enforcement.”

Authorities emphasized this was not an active shooter situation. “The victims were known to the shooter. This was not a random act of violence,” the Newton County Sheriff’s Office stated.

Locals in Covington are stunned. “This town is quiet. You never expect something like this,” said resident Anita Lawson, who lives blocks from the crime scene. “It’s heartbreaking.”

As the investigation unfolds, many are left asking how a workplace turned into a killing ground—and what could have been done to stop it.
