In a surprising twist, former President Donald Trump reportedly considered Fox Business anchor Maria Bartiromo as his vice-presidential pick during his 2024 campaign.

This revelation, detailed in a forthcoming book by Politico reporter Alex Isenstadt, highlights Trump’s unconventional approach to politics and his affinity for loyalty over tradition.

Bartiromo, often dubbed the “Money Honey” from her days at CNBC reporting from the New York Stock Exchange, has been a Trump favorite for years. Since joining Fox Business, she became one of his most vocal defenders, earning admiration for her unwavering support.

“She’s great with the Wall Street crowd, and she knows TV better than anyone,” Trump reportedly told his team during a mid-July 2024 flight to Butler, Pennsylvania. According to Isenstadt’s book Revenge, Trump was “dead serious” about the idea, seeing Bartiromo as a media-savvy ally who could energize his campaign.

Despite Trump’s enthusiasm, the idea didn’t gain traction within his inner circle. Susie Wiles, Trump’s incoming chief of staff, reportedly urged against the pick, citing the lack of time to vet Bartiromo properly.

“Maria’s been great for the campaign in her role,” Wiles is said to have argued, “but this is a step too far. The stakes are too high.”

The conversation ultimately shifted, and just days later, Trump announced his running mate: J.D. Vance, a Republican senator from Ohio and prominent supporter of the “America First” agenda.

The announcement came shortly after a Butler rally that nearly turned tragic when Trump narrowly survived an assassination attempt. The timing underscored the high-stakes nature of the campaign.

“Vice President-elect Vance was the perfect choice,” said Trump’s communications director, Steven Cheung. “He embodies the movement’s values and will carry its momentum forward for years to come.”

Isenstadt’s book also details allegations of behind-the-scenes collusion at Fox News. Days before a January 2024 town hall moderated by Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum, Trump’s team allegedly received leaked questions.

“Thirty minutes before the event, a senior aide received text messages with images of the exact questions and follow-ups,” the book claims. “It was like getting a cheat sheet before the test.”

Trump’s camp reportedly used the advance knowledge to refine their responses. Despite this advantage, Trump was “pissed,” believing the questions were “designed to put him on the defensive,” according to Isenstadt.

Fox News denied having evidence of such a leak but confirmed an internal investigation is underway. “We take these allegations seriously,” a spokesperson said in a statement.

Cheung deflected when asked about the claims, emphasizing Trump’s accessibility during the campaign. “President Trump was the most transparent candidate in American history, and that’s part of why he won in historic fashion,” he said.

Trump’s consideration of Bartiromo underscores his penchant for bold, unorthodox decisions. While the move didn’t materialize, it adds another layer to the narrative of a campaign shaped as much by media optics as by political strategy.

As Revenge hits shelves in March, more details are likely to emerge, offering further insight into one of the most controversial and closely watched campaigns in modern history.
