Samantha Cotton’s wedding day was unforgettable—for reasons no one expected. The 26-year-old bride’s dream celebration turned dramatic when she fainted on the dance floor, prompting swift action from her guests and an emergency call to 911.

High school sweethearts Samantha Cotton and Shane Goneau, both 26, exchanged vows on December 7 at the picturesque Ramblewood Country Club in Mount Laurel Township, New Jersey. Surrounded by 185 friends and family members, the couple’s day seemed flawless. But the lively reception quickly veered into uncharted territory.

The bride’s collapse occurred during a high-energy dance session to favorites like Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline” and Usher’s “Yeah!”. One moment, Cotton was joyfully celebrating; the next, she found herself on the floor.

“I was dancing like crazy, really getting into it,” Cotton shared. “As the song ended, I stood up straight and just felt it—‘I’m going to pass out.’ The next thing I remember, there were people all around me, the music stopped, and the lights were on.”

Her husband, mother, and sister rushed to her side, joined by two friends with healthcare experience—one a nurse—who began providing immediate assistance. While Cotton regained consciousness quickly, venue protocol required an ambulance be called.

The bride attributed her fainting spell to a combination of factors. “I barely ate or drank anything all day,” she explained. “Then at the reception, I had a few drinks and shots. Combine that with how hot it was in the venue and how much I was dancing, and it just overwhelmed me.”

Adding to the speculation, some guests wondered if her medical history played a role. Cotton, who had previously undergone weight-loss surgery and brought her type 2 diabetes under control, dismissed the idea. “One person even shoved a brownie in my mouth, thinking it was low blood sugar,” she said with a laugh. “I spit it out immediately.”

After paramedics checked her vitals—noting slightly elevated blood pressure—Cotton declined a hospital trip. Instead, she opted to rest briefly before rejoining the celebration. “Everyone was amazing,” she said. “They made sure I was okay before the party wrapped up.”

The newlyweds, who first met at Williamstown High School at age 16 and share a young son, headed to an after-party at Miller’s Ale House later that evening. Cotton, however, stuck to water for the rest of the night.

By the next morning, she felt completely recovered. The couple embarked on their honeymoon to Las Vegas, where they are now enjoying their time together. “It was a scare, but I’m fine now,” Cotton said. “We’re just excited to build our future together.”

Looking back, Cotton has one piece of advice for others planning their big day: “Take care of yourself,” she emphasized. “Eat, drink water, and don’t overdo it. It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement, but your health comes first.”

Despite the unexpected turn of events, Cotton and Goneau’s wedding day remains a cherished memory, full of love, laughter, and, most importantly, a happy ending.
