In a bold move, former Vice President Mike Pence is urging Senate Republicans to block President-elect Donald Trump’s controversial pick for Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary—Robert F. Kennedy Jr. The move has set off a firestorm of political debate, as Pence and other conservatives grapple with the potential impact of Kennedy’s appointment.
Trump’s nomination of Kennedy, the environmental activist and former 2024 presidential hopeful, has raised concerns across the political spectrum. Though Kennedy’s notorious opposition to vaccines is widely known, it’s his pro-abortion stance that has Pence deeply worried. Kennedy, who once ran as an independent presidential candidate, has long advocated for abortion rights. He believes abortion should remain accessible until the baby is viable outside the womb and supports overturning the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision that ended federal abortion rights.
Pence Sounds the Alarm: ‘A Threat to Pro-Life America’
In a statement released Friday through his Advancing American Freedom PAC, Pence made it clear why he believes Kennedy’s nomination would be disastrous for the GOP and its pro-life base. “The Trump-Pence administration was unapologetically pro-life,” Pence said. “And this nomination is an abrupt departure from the pro-life record that millions of Americans have supported for decades.”
Kennedy, Pence argued, represents everything that conservatives oppose when it comes to abortion. “For the majority of his career, RFK Jr. has defended abortion on demand during all nine months of pregnancy,” he continued. “If confirmed, RFK Jr. would be the most pro-abortion Republican appointed secretary of HHS in modern history.”
Pence also took a swipe at Trump’s shifting stance on abortion. Though Trump was instrumental in the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, during his 2024 campaign he signaled reluctance to push for a federal abortion ban. This has led to concerns about whether Trump can maintain his pro-life credentials as his administration unfolds.
Republican Split: Trump’s Appointments at Risk
Pence’s call to action comes at a time of uncertainty for Trump’s cabinet picks. Some of his controversial appointments, including Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz for Attorney General and former Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard for Director of National Intelligence, have yet to secure solid backing in the Senate.
With Republicans now holding the Senate majority, the battle over Trump’s nominees is just beginning. Despite strong loyalty from figures like Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, who warned that Senate Republicans would have to contend with Trump and his powerful allies, including Elon Musk and his new PAC, the GOP is divided.
Kennedy’s nomination could become a flashpoint. With Pence now publicly urging a block on the appointment, the fate of Trump’s choices may hinge on whether Senate Republicans can unite—or if Pence’s pro-life coalition can sway the votes.
As the debate continues to heat up, Pence’s words will surely echo through the halls of Congress: “Give the American people a leader who will respect the sanctity of life.”

Pence you have no say in any matters concerned with republicans now. Just stay in your lane. Maybe someone should go back through all the phots and videos so people would understand you were a democrat mole like the others.
