105-Year-Old Woman Found Alive After Home is Destroyed by Tornado

A 105-year-old Florida woman is now without her home after surviving a devastating tornado. Jane Huston, who had lived independently in her house for years, lost everything when the storm tore through Rocky Point, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.

Jane’s great-grandson, Rylee Huston, affectionately calls her “mama” and describes her as a “strong, independent, stubborn woman.” He adds, “She’s amazing.”

The tornado struck when Jane was in her bathroom, one of the few places offering some protection. “I can’t imagine her being in there, just as the roof was ripped off and a wall slammed into the door,” Rylee recalls.

After the storm passed, neighbors found Jane trapped in the rubble and quickly pulled her to safety. Despite her age, Jane survived with a foot injury requiring surgery and a bruised back. She remains in the hospital, recovering from her ordeal.

“Miracle, luck, God. That’s the best as I can really put it,” Rylee said, reflecting on his great-grandmother’s survival.

Jane Huston’s story has inspired her community. Neighbors have rallied around her, collecting supplies like clothing, toiletries, and blankets to support her recovery. They are also helping her find new housing, determined to assist her as she rebuilds her life. “She’s our neighbor, and we’re inspired by her miraculous story of survival,” said Kelly Grandinetti, a volunteer with the Rocky Point Tornado Relief Group. “We just want to be a part of her recovery.”

This tornado is part of an increase in severe weather events impacting Florida. The state has seen a rise in tornadoes linked to climate change and shifting weather patterns. While tornadoes in Florida are not as frequent as hurricanes, they can cause significant damage, especially when they strike populated areas like Rocky Point.

Jane Huston, though still in recovery, remains optimistic. With the support of her family and community, she plans to regain her independence. Rylee Huston said, “She’s already talking about living on her own again. That’s the kind of woman she is.”
