Panicked Trump Aides’ Secret Warning Is Leaked

Donald Trump is publicly promising that the war with Iran could soon be over — but some of his most powerful advisers are reportedly warning him behind closed doors that the fighting could last for years.

Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio have privately told Trump that Iran may be able to withstand U.S. military attacks and crushing economic pressure through the end of his presidency in January 2029, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The warning paints a dramatically different picture from the one Trump has been giving Americans.

Speaking Wednesday, Trump predicted the seven-month conflict would end “immediately after” the November midterm elections, arguing that Iran simply cannot hold out much longer.

“I think the war is going to end immediately after the election because they can’t hold out any longer,” Trump told reporters before heading to the Republican convention in Dallas.

But inside the administration, preparations reportedly suggest officials are bracing for a much longer fight.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has ordered additional forces into the Middle East and the Pentagon has extended or rotated military deployments as Washington prepares for the possibility of remaining heavily involved in the region well beyond 2026.

Trump has repeatedly offered different timelines for ending the war since hostilities began in February. His latest prediction comes as fighting around the Strait of Hormuz continues to rattle global energy markets.

Oil prices surged above $100 a barrel again this week as renewed clashes threatened one of the world’s most important energy shipping routes. Reuters reported Thursday that oil flows through the Strait remain well below their pre-war levels, while higher shipping and insurance costs continue to ripple through global markets.

That has put additional pressure on American drivers already dealing with higher prices.

The war and the cost of living have also become major political headaches heading into the November midterms.

Recent polling has shown Democrats leading Republicans nationally on the generic congressional ballot, although the size of that advantage varies depending on the survey. A recent Financial Times/Focaldata poll put the Democratic lead at 7.5 points, while the RealClearPolitics polling average cited by The Wall Street Journal showed a roughly six-point Democratic advantage.

Vance and Rubio are also frequently discussed as possible contenders for the Republican presidential nomination in 2028, meaning either could potentially inherit the political consequences of a conflict that stretches into the next administration.

For now, Trump continues to insist victory is coming.

At the Republican midterm convention in Dallas, he defended the Iran campaign while promising that both the war and the pressure on oil prices would eventually ease.

But according to the private warnings reportedly reaching the Oval Office, the president’s own advisers are preparing for the possibility that Iran may be able to keep fighting far longer than Trump is telling the public.
