Hillary Clinton ‘Making a List’ to Undo Trump’s White House Changes (Video)

Hillary Clinton is already thinking about what the White House might look like after President Donald Trump — and she says there could be a lot of cleanup involved.

The former secretary of state revealed that she is “making a list” of changes she believes should be made once Trump’s second term ends in 2029, taking particular aim at the president’s growing fondness for gold decor and his ambitious plans to reshape some of Washington’s most recognizable landmarks.

“There’s going to be a long list. I’m making a list,” Clinton told journalist Kara Swisher during the Aug. 7 episode of the Pivot podcast, where she joined Swisher to discuss politics, Iran and Trump’s dramatic makeover of the presidency.

And one of the first items on Clinton’s list appears to be getting rid of the gold.

“De-gold the horses,” Clinton said while discussing four bronze horse statues near the Lincoln Memorial that Trump had covered in gold. “Take down the gold.”

Clinton, 78, went even further, comparing the increasingly ornate appearance of Trump’s White House to the palaces of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.

“When I was in Baghdad after the fall of Saddam Hussein, I had meetings — I was then a senator — I had meetings in some of his palaces, and they were quite reminiscent of what we are seeing in our own White House,” Clinton said. “It’s just insane.”

The 2016 Democratic presidential nominee also took aim at Trump’s plans outside the White House itself.

Clinton criticized his proposed massive triumphal arch near Arlington National Cemetery, saying she believes a future administration may have to tear it down.

“Probably have to take down the arch, which he is determined to put up, which I think is just a terrible idea,” she said.

Then came perhaps her most eyebrow-raising comment.

“I think we’ll have to worry about the reflecting pool because it’s not going to be fixed by the time he leaves, assuming he leaves,” Clinton said.

Her choice of words immediately added a sharper political edge to what had largely been a conversation about aesthetics.

Trump is constitutionally barred from being elected to a third term, meaning his current presidency is scheduled to end on Jan. 20, 2029. Clinton’s “assuming he leaves” remark appeared to be another jab at concerns frequently raised by Trump’s critics about his respect for presidential limits and democratic institutions.

Clinton has a uniquely personal connection to the White House she now says Trump has “tackied up.”

She lived there for eight years while her husband, Bill Clinton, served as president from 1993 to 2001. She later returned frequently as secretary of state under President Barack Obama from 2009 until 2013.

When Swisher asked whether it was difficult watching Trump transform the building, Clinton said it was “sad.”

“It’s sad to me,” she said. “It’s sad that it’s so tackied up.”

Clinton argued that Trump’s obsession with gold reflects something deeper about the president.

“It’s a reflection of, you know, his narcissistic personality and his need to feel important, including sticking gold embellishments all over the walls of the Oval Office,” she said.

Trump has made gold one of the defining visual trademarks of his second term, dramatically altering the Oval Office with gilded decorative elements that give the historic room a noticeably more lavish appearance.

Clinton suggested the president is devoting far too much attention to appearances while facing far more consequential issues.

“This is a man who can’t concentrate,” she claimed. “This is a man whose mind apparently goes to, ‘Where can I add more gold?’ instead of, ‘How do I get out of Iran without looking like the loser that I am?’”

She continued: “His mind is about, ‘What are these things that reflect my need to appear important?’ And so that’s what he spends his time on.”

And while Clinton’s own hopes of returning to the White House as president famously ended when Trump defeated her in the stunning 2016 election, she joked that there might still be one job waiting for her after his presidency is over.

She could become the “secretary of cleaning it up.”

Sixteen years after Trump and Clinton became two of the most bitter political rivals in modern American history, it appears Clinton is still keeping tabs on him — right down to the gold covering the walls.
