Young Passenger Dies After Sudden Mid-Air Medical Emergency on Flight

A Southwest Airlines flight headed for Los Angeles turned tragic when a 22-year-old passenger suffered a sudden medical emergency in the air and died despite desperate attempts to save him.

Southwest Flight 958 was traveling from Dallas to Los Angeles International Airport on Friday morning when passenger Rain McMillan Walmsey became critically ill and stopped responding, according to law enforcement sources cited by NBC4.

The frightening emergency unfolded while the plane was still in the air.

Someone aboard the flight began performing CPR on Walmsey as the aircraft continued toward Los Angeles, with first responders preparing to meet the plane as soon as it landed.

Paramedics rushed to the aircraft following its arrival at LAX, but Walmsey could not be revived. Firefighters ultimately pronounced him dead at the scene.

The Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office later identified the passenger as 22-year-old Rain McMillan Walmsey.

Exactly what caused the young man’s sudden medical crisis remains unclear. His official cause of death is still under investigation.

Southwest Airlines confirmed that Flight 958 had experienced what the company described as a “medical incident involving a customer,” but the airline did not release additional information about what happened.

The shocking death comes as millions of Americans continue to rely on commercial airlines every day, where crews and fellow passengers can suddenly find themselves dealing with life-or-death emergencies thousands of feet above the ground.
