Talk about a wedding-day entrance nobody saw coming.

A Utah bride’s big day got off to a wild start when her own mother accidentally crashed an SUV into the hotel where the wedding was being held — slamming into a stone support column outside the building.

The bizarre mishap unfolded Saturday, Aug. 8, at the Best Western Plus High Country Inn in Ogden, where the bride, groom and their families were preparing for the couple to exchange vows.

According to the Standard-Examiner, the mother of the bride was arriving at the hotel when a problem involving her slipper apparently caused things to go very wrong.

Jennifer McBride, the hotel’s general manager, said she was told the woman believed the vehicle was in reverse.

“From what the police officer said, the front desk clerk said that [the mother of the bride] thought she was going in reverse,” McBride said.

“She thought she had it in reverse, and then when she went to adjust, her slipper got stuck.”

Instead of backing away, the vehicle reportedly jumped the curb, struck a sign and continued toward the hotel before smashing into a large stone column outside the lobby.

Photos from the scene showed the gray-blue SUV wedged against the column with significant damage to its front left side.

The bumper was partially torn away, while scratches and dents covered the vehicle. Several stones from the column also appeared to have been knocked loose and were scattered across the ground.

The mother reportedly attempted to reverse the SUV away from the building following the collision but was unable to move it.

Fluid also appeared to be leaking from the front driver’s side of the vehicle.

Despite the dramatic scene, there was one major piece of good news: nobody was hurt.

McBride said no guests or pedestrians happened to be standing near the entrance when the SUV crashed.

“We’re very grateful that everybody’s okay. No injuries, just property damage,” she said.

“And a little kink in wedding day plans.”

The crash caused only a minor disruption to the celebration, meaning the unusual accident ultimately became another unforgettable chapter in an already memorable wedding day.

The Ogden Police Department was contacted for additional information about the incident.
