Trump’s Strange Gesture Sparks Serious Health Questions (Video)

Donald Trump’s latest public appearance is fueling another wave of questions about the 80-year-old president’s health after video showed him repeatedly slapping or tapping the side of his leg while walking.

The unusual gesture quickly caught attention online, coming just days after Trump was photographed with noticeable bruising and scrapes across his forearms while attending the LIV Golf New York tournament at his Trump National Bedminster course in New Jersey.

In footage circulating across social media, Trump can be seen repeatedly patting the area around his thigh and hip as he walks across an airport tarmac.

That question unleashed a torrent of speculation, with social media users offering everything from relatively harmless explanations to theories involving neurological problems.

One person claimed the movement resembled a physical therapy technique sometimes used to help patients alter walking patterns. Another suggested repeated leg tapping in an older person could be an attempt to ease discomfort.

But there is no public medical evidence establishing why Trump was making the movement, and viral posts attempting to diagnose the president from video alone remain speculation.

Still, the footage landed at an awkward time for the White House.

Trump appeared at Bedminster on Saturday wearing a white short-sleeved polo that left his arms exposed. Photos showed several bruises and marks on his forearms, while Band-Aids could also be seen wrapped around fingers on his right hand.

The marks have received increasing attention because Trump has repeatedly been photographed with bruising on his hands and arms.

The White House has previously attributed the bruising to Trump’s extensive handshaking and his use of aspirin, which can make bruising more likely. Trump’s physician has similarly said his bruising is consistent with minor soft-tissue irritation compounded by aspirin use.

Trump has also been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency after swelling was observed in his legs. The condition occurs when veins in the legs have difficulty efficiently returning blood toward the heart.

When the diagnosis was disclosed in July 2025, the White House said testing found no evidence of more serious problems including deep vein thrombosis, arterial disease, heart failure or kidney impairment. Officials said Trump was experiencing no discomfort and remained in excellent health.

Questions about Trump’s age and fitness have nevertheless followed him throughout his second term, particularly as photographs and videos showing bruising, swelling or unusual movements spread rapidly online.

Critics have also raised questions about Trump’s cognitive health, though no publicly released diagnosis has established that he is experiencing cognitive decline.

Trump has repeatedly brushed aside those concerns, frequently pointing to his performance on cognitive screening tests as evidence that he remains mentally sharp.

The White House has been equally aggressive in defending the president.

After the newest round of speculation, spokesperson Davis Ingle described Trump as “the sharpest, most accessible, and energetic president in American history,” while attacking reporters raising questions about his health.

For an administration eager to portray Trump as indefatigable, however, the images continue to attract attention.

And with the president now 80, even seemingly minor gestures are increasingly becoming part of a much larger debate over the health and stamina of the oldest man ever elected to the presidency.
