New details about Nick Reiner’s life behind bars are raising fresh questions about how he is handling jail as he awaits trial in the shocking stabbing deaths of his famous parents, filmmaker Rob Reiner and producer-photographer Michele Singer Reiner.
According to a new report from People, the 32-year-old was disciplined earlier this year after an alleged outburst inside Los Angeles County’s Twin Towers Correctional Facility that one source described as “extremely hostile.”
The incident reportedly happened on April 27, after Reiner had finished taking a shower and changed into fresh county-issued clothing. He was waiting to be escorted back to his cell when deputies were delayed because they were responding to another inmate who had apparently overdosed elsewhere in the unit.
That delay allegedly set Reiner off.
A source familiar with the situation told People that Reiner became “recalcitrant” and “extremely hostile,” creating a verbal disturbance while refusing to follow commands.
“He was yelling, screaming, being disrespectful and shouting many profanities,” the source claimed.
The insider said Reiner grew increasingly agitated as he waited, allegedly angry that deputies had not returned quickly enough to take him back to his cell.
“He had finished showering and changed and wanted to return to his cell,” the source told the outlet. “When it took too long, he became frustrated and angry.”
According to the report, Reiner allegedly made hostile remarks toward both a sheriff and a sergeant, leading one deputy to call for backup. Several additional guards reportedly responded, though the situation did not turn physical.
Reiner was ultimately written up for violating jail rules and temporarily lost several privileges, including phone calls, visitation and commissary access, for five days. The disciplinary decision was reportedly reviewed by supervisors before being explained to him inside his cell.
The incident allegedly took place inside the jail’s specialized medical observation unit, where inmates are housed separately and escorted one at a time under heightened security. Reiner has reportedly been housed there since his arrest last December and remains under close monitoring, with regular welfare checks and access to medical and psychiatric care.
While the shower outburst was described as unusual compared with his overall behavior in custody, the same source claimed Reiner has recently been struggling behind bars.
“Lately, he’s not been doing very well,” the source told People. “He’s been struggling inside jail.”
Reiner’s incarceration comes after one of Hollywood’s most disturbing family tragedies. He was arrested following the late 2025 stabbing deaths of his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner.
He has pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder and remains jailed without bail as the case moves forward. His preliminary hearing is currently scheduled for September 15.
The case has continued to draw national attention because of Rob Reiner’s decades-long career in film and television, as well as the brutal nature of the allegations involving his own son. For now, Reiner remains behind bars as prosecutors prepare to lay out more of their case in court.
