Talk about hitting the jackpot.
An Arizona newborn made one unforgettable entrance into the world after her mother was reportedly sent home from the hospital, only to give birth minutes later in the parking lot of a casino.
Little Noa Felix of Chandler was born July 13 outside Gila River Resorts & Casinos – SanTan Mountain after her mother, Regena Felix, said she had gone to the hospital in labor but was told she had not progressed enough to be admitted, according to Fox 10.
By the time Regena and her husband, Frankie Felix, left the hospital, there was no making it home.
“I definitely feel like they should listen to women more,” Regena told the outlet. “Because I asked her, ‘Well, what am I supposed to do? Go home and just be in pain? You see what I’m going through right now and you’re sending me home.’”
Minutes later, Regena’s water broke in the car.
With his wife in active labor and no time to spare, Frankie pulled into the nearest bright, visible place he could find. That spot just happened to be the parking lot of Gila River Resorts & Casinos – SanTan Mountain, home to the largest casino sportsbook in the state.
Then, in the front seat of his new SUV, Frankie did what few fathers ever expect to do: he delivered his own daughter.
But the terrifying ordeal was far from over.
After baby Noa was born, the couple realized her umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck. The newborn had turned blue, turning a shocking roadside delivery into every parent’s nightmare.
Frankie, who was wearing an Army shirt during the interview, said instinct took over. He quickly untangled the cord from Noa’s neck, even though he admitted he had no idea what he was doing in the moment.
“I didn’t, I really didn’t,” he told Fox 10. “Not enough military training in the world prepared me to deliver a baby, and I just did.”
Thankfully, baby Noa survived the dramatic arrival and is already making her personality known.
Her mother described the newborn as a “feisty little thing.”
The family’s pediatrician was stunned by the story and praised the couple for how they handled the emergency under such frightening circumstances, Regena said.
The wild birth story has also left many people asking a serious question beneath the unbelievable details: why was a mother in that much pain sent away so close to delivery?
For Regena, the lesson is clear. Women know their bodies, and when a mother says something is happening, she should be heard.
In Noa’s case, a terrifying moment ended with a healthy baby girl, a stunned dad, and one very lucky arrival outside an Arizona casino.
“She’s one lucky baby” may be an understatement.
