Late NFL star Aldon Smith spent his final hours helping feed homeless people in California before his sudden death at just 36 years old.

The former San Francisco 49ers linebacker was out in San Jose on Saturday delivering pizzas to unhoused people, according to Pastor Scott Wagers, who works with the outreach group The Mercy Mobile of Silicon Valley.

Wagers told TMZ that Bay Area business owner Amir Shirazi showed up that day with Smith and a stack of pizzas to hand out to people in need.

The kind gesture would become one of Smith’s final acts.

Wagers said the ex-NFL player did not appear to be acting strangely during the outreach effort.

“Aldon was a very gentle, friendly guy,” the pastor said. “Nothing seemed off other than maybe seeming a little tired.”

Just hours later, Wagers said he received a heartbreaking call from Shirazi telling him Smith had died.

According to Wagers, Shirazi said he and Smith made a few stops after delivering the food before heading back to Shirazi’s home.

Shirazi reportedly went inside the house, and when he returned outside, he found Smith unresponsive in his truck.

At first, Shirazi believed the former football star was only sleeping.

Smith was rushed to Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose, where he was later pronounced dead.

The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner’s Office is now investigating his death.

Smith, who was once one of the NFL’s most feared defensive players, was just 36.
