Some of Donald Trump’s own voters are now turning on him, saying the president they backed three elections in a row has failed them where it hurts most: their bank accounts.
In a striking segment on MS Now’s The Briefing with Jen Psaki, several former loyal Trump supporters told reporter Alex Tabet they are battling serious buyer’s remorse after voting for Trump again in 2024.
The frustration comes as Trump’s second term faces growing criticism over inflation, grocery prices, gas costs and the financial pressure squeezing everyday Americans.
Psaki opened the segment by pointing to Trump’s weak numbers on the economy and inflation, two issues he repeatedly promised to fix on the campaign trail. But for some of the voters who helped put him back in the White House, the promises now feel empty.
“I actually have panic attacks,” said Annette Dombrowski, an Ohio woman who voted for Trump in 2016, 2020 and 2024.
Dombrowski, who works as a janitor at a power plant that is shutting down at the end of the month, became visibly emotional as she described the fear of losing her job and not being able to retire.
“I don’t want to work anymore, but I can’t afford to retire,” she said.
When Tabet asked whether she believes Trump understands the financial pain millions of Americans are facing, Dombrowski did not hesitate.
“No,” she said.
Then she delivered a blistering message aimed directly at the billionaire president.
“He hasn’t lived it to understand it,” Dombrowski said. “He sees it, he has not lived it. He needs to live it. Wear the clothes. Wear the shoes. Wear your Walmart clothes. Wear your Walmart shoes. Do your thrift store shopping. Don’t eat steaks. I don’t get to go out to dinner.”
Dombrowski said she is especially furious about the cost of groceries, an issue Trump hammered during the campaign while promising relief for working families.
“You said you’d bring down the grocery prices,” she said. “I must be the most angry person when I grocery shop because I buy the same things every week and I see it jump every week. It is not every couple of months. It’s literally every week.”
Another Ohio voter, truck driver Chris Tackett, said he also backed Trump three times but no longer considers himself a strong supporter.
Tackett said Trump campaigned on fixing inflation, lowering food prices and easing the cost-of-living crisis, but he believes the president has failed to deliver.
“He’s backtracked on every single pitch point he had during his election,” Tackett said.
He also slammed Trump over rising gas prices, accusing the president of leaving working Americans in a worse position despite all the campaign slogans.
“All we heard was drill, drill, drill during the election, and now all we’re getting is drilled into the dirt with these prices,” Tackett said.
“So I’m not a fan of him,” he added. “I voted for Trump all three terms. To be honest with you, I’m not a big supporter of him at this point.”
Asked what he would say to Trump directly, Tackett had a simple message.
“Get it together, man,” he said.
“The average American is struggling to make ends meet right now. And nobody wants to hear ‘the war’s almost over.’ Nobody wants to hear ‘it’s gonna get better,’” Tackett said. “You’ve had a year to make it better at this point. Make it better. ‘Make America Great Again,’ right?”
The segment ended with Rob Couch, a one-time Trump voter, who offered the harshest criticism of all.
Psaki warned viewers that Couch had a more explicit message for the president, one she said captured the anger now bubbling up among some disappointed Trump voters.
“You want me to really say it on air?” Couch said. “I’d say f— you.”
“I don’t mean to be disrespectful to any leader,” he continued, “but he’s disrespectful to us, and he doesn’t care.”
The remarks offered a raw look at a growing political problem for Trump: the very voters who once saw him as a champion for working Americans are now accusing him of being out of touch, distracted and unable to keep his biggest promises.
For Democrats, the anger could become a major opening heading into the next election cycle, especially if economic frustration continues to cut across party lines in battleground states like Ohio.
The White House was contacted for comment by The Daily Beast.
