Melania Trump’s new documentary on Amazon Prime Video is giving viewers a closer look at the current First Lady — but many people watching say the film reveals something unexpected: she appears to have almost no close friends around her.
The documentary, titled Melania, reportedly cost Amazon about $40 million to acquire. While the film seems intended to showcase Melania’s life and personality, some viewers say it unintentionally highlights how isolated she appears to be.
Throughout the documentary, Melania is rarely seen spending time with friends. There are no scenes of her laughing over coffee with longtime companions or sharing personal conversations with people outside her professional circle.
Instead, nearly everyone shown alongside her appears to be someone who works for her.
The people who appear most frequently in the film include event planner David Monn, fashion designer Adam Lippes and a number of stylists, assistants and advisers. The documentary shows Melania interacting with them while planning events, discussing clothing and preparing appearances.
But viewers quickly noticed that none of these people appear to be personal friends — they are all employees or hired collaborators.
Even President Donald Trump only appears briefly in the documentary. When he does show up, it feels more like a short cameo than a central part of Melania’s day-to-day life.
The overall impression left by the film is that Melania’s world is tightly controlled and highly professional, with very little insight into a personal social life.
That sense of isolation was echoed recently during a speech Melania gave while marking Women’s History Month.
During the event, the First Lady described her experience by saying she often feels “alone at the top.” President Trump stood nearby while she made the remark but did not visibly respond.
In the same speech, Melania described herself as a “visionary,” saying that solitude helps fuel her creativity and imagination.
Still, despite years spent in the public spotlight, much of Melania’s personal life remains a mystery.
Her background as a model from Eastern Europe is widely known, but the details of her early career and personal relationships have rarely been discussed publicly.
Her son Barron Trump, now 19, appears to be one of the few people consistently close to her. But as he grows older and focuses on his own life, he is naturally spending less time in the public spotlight with his mother.
The documentary appears intended to present Melania as an elegant and mysterious figure. But for many viewers, it instead raises an unusual question: who in Melania Trump’s life is actually a friend?

If I were a public figure (let alone one with a controversial connection), I’d set all my personal social media to private (as contrasted with the public facing accounts), and warn friends (yes, there would be a few real ones) that proximity to me might make them a target of online bullies, paparazzi, and worse, so that while they would be welcome to be seen with me, they wouldn’t make the choice lightly.
There are a few like that, too few IMO. The only sense in which personal is not TMI is that someone is likely to be healthier with some appropriate level of personal in their lives; but all the details are quite unnecessary to the strangers that constitute nearly everyone who knows of them.
Just because she doesn’t film them with her doesn’t mean a thing. I believe she is cautious with her friends. I would be also. Just how many people associated with President Trump first term actually got paid to lie about him? Democrats will pay anyone to do their dirty work. First Lady Melania is very smart and understands how the swamp operates. Guarding her relationships with her friends is how I would be also. Her friends understand it also. Friends are people you keep out of harm. She is doing what she has to so can protect her friends from all the devils in swamp and beyond. As usual let’s start crap on Trumps while ignoring corruption by democrats and rino’s. Someone is always starting something they have no business in. I can’t imagine what she has gone through because of other’s. All I see is a real woman with brains and knows what her public duties are. Anything else she does is no one’s business. We finally have a First Lady in the White House that is truly a lady. Sorry can’t say that about all most all the last five of them. I don’t see her going out and making remarks about them do you? She contributes while in office and when not in office. Maybe other so called First Ladies should show respect where respect is due. Shame when women in the swamp are like the so called men and have to fight against those in the Trump administration. All I am seeing is people who hate America for some reason. If these democrats and rino’s have nothing to be afraid of why do they attack Trump’s. Seems to me they would all be doing their jobs to help protect us instead of being so hateful. Don’t have nothing to hide then way so attacking on opposing sides. Swamp hasn’t kept their oaths in all things. Can’t imagine what our country would look like if the all did their jobs for the American people like Trumps do. America First is top priority.
