A Southwest Airlines flight turned chaotic when a furious passenger erupted into a full-scale shouting match and launched food across the cabin after accusing another man of flirting with his wife. The midair meltdown, filmed by stunned travelers, is now spreading rapidly across social media.
It happened on a January flight departing from Los Angeles, according to witnesses who spoke with the uploader behind the Instagram account @mikeandbo. The clip shows a visibly agitated man in a gray T-shirt and baseball cap confronting multiple passengers as a flight attendant tries to calm him down.
“You need to get off this plane,” the attendant says firmly in the video. Her voice stays steady. The passengers around her can be heard sighing, laughing, and reacting as the confrontation escalates.
What begins as tense muttering quickly turns into a tirade.
One passenger tells the man, “Everyone wants you off, dude.” The accused husband snaps back: “You want to chime in, guys?”
Then he unloads the grievance that sparked the entire scene.
“So your wife’s over there talking to another dude, man, and you just sit there and take it?” he yells. “You feel like you can talk to me. Is that fair?”
His voice booms through the cabin. Several witnesses later said they had no idea who his wife was or what conversation he was referring to. One passenger told the uploader privately, “Nobody saw flirting. It looked like he made it up in his head.”
The man continues shouting even as the crew tries to deescalate. “You’re running your f—ing mouth, motherf—er,” he says while clutching a plastic takeout bag and a small pizza box he brought onboard.
At that point, the men filming jokingly offer “a dollar for a slice.” That pushes the enraged traveler over the edge.
“Put your f—king phone down, you douchebag,” he shouts. “Are you like 80? You’re still filming people?”
Then the threat: “Don’t make me throw my food at you.”
Seconds later, he does exactly that. The man hurls his takeout bag toward the camera, sending passengers recoiling. He then raises the pizza box as if preparing to launch it too.
A flight attendant steps in and signals security. The man is removed from the aircraft moments later as the cabin bursts into relieved chatter.
One of the passengers hit with the tossed food breaks the tension by holding up the package and asking, “French fries, anyone?” The joke brings down the house. Laughter fills the aisle as the plane resets from the chaos.
Southwest Airlines did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The airline has faced several viral incidents in recent years involving disruptive behavior, something aviation experts say has become more common.
“It’s not unusual for airlines to remove aggressive passengers before pushback,” said retired flight operations supervisor Harold Lewis. “Crew members are trained to act quickly before a situation becomes dangerous.”
Online, commenters wasted no time weighing in.
“That’s when it’s appropriate to clap on a plane,” one viewer wrote. Another added, “Ban people like this for five years minimum.” A third commented, “I think I figured out why his wife was talking to someone else.”
Others praised the calm passengers who filmed the event. “The two guys trolling him were the real alphas,” one user posted. “Bravo, gentlemen.”
The Instagram video has already racked up thousands of views — and even more jokes.
As one commenter put it: “He threw it for free when you offered a dollar? Best deal on Southwest.”
