In a deeply emotional post that’s touched hearts across the baseball world, Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Alex Vesia and his wife Kayla have revealed the devastating loss of their baby girl, Sterling Sol Vesia.
The couple shared the heartbreaking news Friday, writing on Instagram: “Our little angel. We love you forever & you’re with us always.” They said Sterling “went to heaven” on October 26, and described the pain as indescribable. “We hold her in our hearts and cherish every second we had with her,” they added.
The Dodgers family has rallied behind them since the tragedy. Following the team’s World Series win on November 1, Alex and Kayla thanked the organization for standing by them through the unimaginable. “Our baseball family showed up for us and we wouldn’t be able to do this without them,” they wrote, also extending gratitude to fans from both the Dodgers and Blue Jays communities for their overwhelming messages of love and support.
“Thank you Dodger Nation, Blue Jays organization, and all baseball fans for your love and support. We have seen ALL your messages, comments and posts. It’s brought us so much comfort,” the Vesias said, ending their post with appreciation for Cedars-Sinai staff: “Every person we came across was truly so incredible.”
Vesia, 29, had stepped away from the team during the World Series to be with his wife as they faced what the Dodgers described as a “deeply personal family matter.” Manager Dave Roberts and pitcher Clayton Kershaw both spoke publicly about how much Vesia means to the team, with players wearing his number, 51, on their caps during Game 3 as a touching tribute.
“We just didn’t want to have any potential for any kind of pressure,” Dodgers executive Andrew Friedman said. “This is so much bigger than baseball.”
The couple had announced their pregnancy in April, sharing their excitement about becoming first-time parents.
Fans and teammates alike continue to flood their social media with love and condolences for the Vesias as they mourn their little girl.
